UFC Fight Night 37 bonuses: Alexander Gustafsson earns dual awards
LONDON – Alexander Gustafsson, Jimi Manuwa and Gunnar Nelson earned $50,000 bonuses for their performances today at UFC Fight Night 37.
Gustafsson, in fact, picked up two and netted $100,000 in total. Gustafsson and Manuwa earned “Fight of the Night†honors, and Nelson and Gustafsson each won “Performance of the Night†awards.
UFC officials announced the winners at the post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie attended.
UFC Fight Night 37 took place at London’s O2 Arena. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
Gustafsson and Manuwa’s selection for “Fight of the Night†honors is perhaps a bit peculiar. The card had many solid options, including Brad Pickett’s spirited win over fellow flyweight Neil Seery on the main card, but officials ultimately went with the headliner, which Gustafsson won via second-round TKO. A knee from the clinch set up the fight-ending sequence, which followed a fairly dominant first round for Gustafsson, who took top position for much of the opening five minutes.
Nelson, meanwhile, easily handled fellow welterweight Omari Akhmedov, whom he tapped out with a first-round guillotine choke. It was the fighter’s first bout in 13 months, though he showed no signs of ring rust.
