UFC Fight Night 35 in Georgia adds Luke Rockhold-Constantinos Philippou as main event
LAS VEGAS – The UFC’s return to Georgia has its main event with the addition of a middleweight fight.
Former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will headline the UFC Fight Night 35 show against Constantinos Philipppou (12-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC). UFC President Dana White announced the fight booking following Saturday’s UFC 167 event in Las Vegas.
UFC Fight Night 35 takes place Jan. 15 at Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., outside of Atlanta. The main event will be a five-round fight.
Rockhold will fight for the first time since being knocked out by Vitor Belfort in May in Brazil. That was Rockhold’s UFC debut after coming over from Strikeforce as that promotion’s final middleweight champion. He won the belt there against Ronaldo Souza in September 2011, then defended it against Keith Jardine and Tim Kennedy before the loss to Belfort.
Rockhold was supposed to return in October at UFC 166 against Tim Boetsch
Philippou will be trying to rebound from a loss, as well. In September, he lost a unanimous decision to Francis Carmont at UFC 165 in Toronto to have a five-fight winning streak snapped. That streak included wins over Tim Boetsch and Court McGee.
With the addition of the main event, the UFC Fight Night 35 card now includes:
Constantinos Philippou vs. Luke Rockhold
Cole Miller vs. Sam Sicilia
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Mike Easton
