UFC announces 'Fight Night' return to Macau in August, Japan show in September
MACAU – Following Saturday’s return to Macau, the UFC already has its next two fights in Asia booked.
The promotion has a pair of “Fight Night†cards set for August and September, UFC executive Mark Fischer told MMAjunkie on Saturday following the TUF China Finale.
The UFC will return to The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena on Aug. 23 for a “Fight Night†card, and then will return to Saitama Arena just north of Tokyo for another “Fight Night†event on Sept. 20.
“Based on the success of our first event in Macau and tonight, we can confirm we are going to be be back here in August,†Fischer told MMAjunkie. “We’re holding the date of Aug. 23 with an even bigger event. I don’t know if we can top this, but we’re certainly going to try. And we’ll return to Japan on Sept. 20 with a major event.â€
No fights or broadcast details for either card were confirmed. But Saturday’s TUF China Finale in Macau streamed exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. A welterweight bout between Dong Hyun Kim and John Hathaway was the main event, which Kim won by stunning knockout in the third round.
Saturday was the UFC’s second card in Macau after a “Fight Night†event in November 2012 featuring Cung Le and Rich Franklin. The card in Japan will be the UFC’s first there since another “Fight Night†event in March 2013.
With the two upcoming events, plus Saturday’s TUF China Finale and this past month’s “Fight Night†card in Singapore, the UFC will have at least four events in Asia during this calendar year.
