Bart Palaszewski made his long-awaited UFC and featherweight (sort of) debuts very memorable as he knocked out top-10 featherweight Tyson Griffin in the first round. Griffin had missed weight by three pounds, so the bout was technically at a catchweight. Griffin looked comfortable early, responding to Bart's jabs with short punches and leg kicks. The end was soon to come, however.

Palaszewski caught Griffin with a solid shot that dropped him to the mat, but he popped right back up. He clearly wasn't all there though, and Palaszewski teed off on Griffin against the cage until Griffin ate one too many and fell in defeat. The knockout came at the 2:45 mark of the first round, and earned Bartimus a $75,000 bonus for knockout of the night. The featherweight bout was the first fight on the UFC 137 televised portion of the card, and was shown live on Spike TV.

What was the high spot of this fight?

The finishing sequence. Bartimus threw some 15-20 punches against the cage, about half of which connected, before the final three crumpled Griffin to the mat like a sack of overweight potatos.

Where do these guys go from here?

Palaszewski will rocket into the featherweight rankings with that win, even if the bout technically didn't take place in the featherweight division. It was Bart's most impressive win since his early IFL days, and he's off to a great start at 145. While I personally don't think he can maintain it, he'll definitely get another high-profile fight and is potentially just a couple of wins away from a title shot in a shallow division. A bout with Erik Koch would definitelybe something I'd want to watch. He could also face the winner of the Pablo Garza vs. Dustin Poirier bout scheduled for UFC on Fox 1 in two weeks.

Griffin came out of this whole deal looking absolutely terrible. Missing weight, losing 25% of his purse, and getting brutally knocked out for the second time in his career is not good. His stock will go down, but due to the lack of depth he'll probably still get a fairly tough fight next. Tyson Griffin vs. Darren Elkins sounds like logical booking to me.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Now. You can definitely spare three minutes of your life to watch an absolutely brutal knockout, right? Yes you can. Stop reading this and go watch it.
