UFC 136 Results: Kenny Florian Not Retired...Yet

Carmichael Dave tweeted that Kenny Florian was expected to announce his retirement after Florian came up short in his UFC 136 featherweight title shot. Kenny simply wasn't able to make the adjustment necessary when Aldo altered his strategy after a competitive first round. It was the third time the UFC granted Florian a title shot and the third time he lost by a wide margin.

But, while he isn't writing the idea off entirely, Florian is saying that he hasn't decided to hang up the gloves quite yet. Via the Boston Herald:

"Not right now," said Florian when asked about hanging up his gloves. "I haven't really thought past this fight, so we'll see what happens."

"Obviously, I'm disappointed," Florian said. "I fought very hard. I trained extremely hard. I wasn't successful. That's it. . . . Against a guy like Aldo you have to mix it up better. I wasn't successful in the wrestling and I think that made a big difference."

Florian's career path is hard to figure out going forward. He isn't likely to be given another shot at a title, unless circumstances (injuries or the like) opened up the opportunity. It's up to Florian now if he wants to keep fighting just to fight or if he is ready to bring his lengthy UFC career to an end.

UFC president Dana White chimed in in the article, reminding everyone that Florian isn't limited in his options outside active competition:

"I really like Kenny, and I have a lot of respect for him," White said. "He's accomplished a lot in this sport. He really has. The thing about Kenny is he's smart. He's talented. He's got other options. He's got things going on outside of fighting, too. It's just one of those things he needs to sit down and really figure out on his own."
