Matt Hughes threw a jab to the just healed eye of Josh Koscheck and it definitely bothered the AKA fighter. Koscheck responded with a combination that clipped Hughes but didn't do significant damage. Hughes landed a left hook and he definitely found a target in Koscheck's right eye. Big upper cut landed for Matt Hughes and stood Josh Koscheck straight up. Koscheck threw a combination but Hughes avoided everything with some solid head movement. Koscheck with a takedown attempt and Hughes defended it perfectly. He landed a knee to the face on the exit. Strikes land for Koscheck. Hughes gets the Thai clinch and lands a knee but fell on his butt. Unable to get back to his feet, he rolled to his back. Koscheck landed multiple strikes to the head and with just seconds remaining in the round, Hughes went out.

This fight was Koscheck's return to the Octagon after falling to Georges St. Pierre earlier this year. Early on he was getting picked apart by Matt Hughes, but his power was the great equalizer. He landed several strikes from the clinch and had Hughes out on his feet. This win is his 14th in the UFC and his overall record in the organization is 14-5. Matt Hughes has nothing to be ashamed of in this fight. For the first time in recent history, his all around skill set looked to finally come together. He is a UFC Hall of Fame member and still considered by many to be the greatest welterweight of all time.

In the post fight, Joe Rogan asked Matt Hughes what is next for him following this loss. Hughes was adamant that this was not a retirement, just an indefinite hiatus while he figures out his future. If he does return, he will do so as a legend of the sport. If this was the last time we saw Matt Hughes fight, it's a hell of a way to leave. He went out on his shield against one of the top welterweights in the world. Go over to MMA Nation tocheck if Kid Nate saw this fight the same way.
