He won a CFC grand prix in 2009, defeating fellow UFC fighter Anthony Perosh by KO in the finals. That earned his a shot in the UFC, and he made his debut on the big show by dispatching of Igor Pokrajac via second round TKO. He suffered a setback in his second fight though when he was submitted by uber-prospect Alexander Gustafsson in the first round. Only one of his 17 career fights have gone the distance.
Ricardo Romero started his career in the Ring of Combat promotion where he racked up an impressive 10-1 record and won both their heavyweight and light heavyweight titles. He made his UFC debut against Seth Petruzelli at UFC 116. and ended up submitting The Kimbo Killer with a beautiful straight armbar in the second round after taking a hellacious beating in the first. His second outing was a nightmare though, getting TKO'd by Kyle Kingsbury in just 21 seconds after eating a brutal straight left and some ground n' pound.
Why should you care?
It's a pretty good style matchup. Romero is willing to take a beating to get a fight to the floor, and Te Huna is perfectly willing to give him that beating. I definitely don't see this fight being boring.
