In the second PPV fight of UFC 133, Middleweight Constantinos Philippou defeated Jorge Rivera via split decision. Philippou came into the fight as a late replacement for Alessio Sakara. He is now 1-1 in the UFC. Rivera, a long time veteran, came into the fight talking about possible retirement.

On a fast paced main card, this fight was the definite slow point of the night. The opening round was mostly methodical, with both men feeling each other out standing. The second round heated up quickly, as Philippou landed some heavy punches on the ground to start the round. The fight looked very close to being stopped, however Rivera reversed the position and landed some shots of his own, only to see Philippou come back and secure a strong submission attempt. Wild round. The third slowed down once again, and the fight went to a decision, with the judges scoring it 28-29, 29-28, and 29-28.

What was the high spot of this fight?

The entire second round was good, but the particular highlight was the beginning, as Philippou nearly ended the fight, only to find himself in severe trouble moments later.

Where do these guys go from here?

Philippou has had two UFC fights now, and both were late replacements. I think he's earned a regularly scheduled fight at this point.

As I said, Rivera was talking retirement, and that looks like a good idea. He's 39, and really looked his age in this one.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Later, mainly just to see the second round.
