Brown shot and had a very high tight single. Phan defended but was very behind on cards after the first. Phan started using his boxing more effectively landing hard shots to the body. Brown looked confused by Phan's boxing and his ribs were getting punished. Brown finally got the fight to the ground with two minutes remaining but couldn't keep position. Where the first round was all Brown, the second is all Nam. Brown's cardio loked to be fading just as the round ended with slowed movement and unsuccessful takedowns.
The final round opened with Phan landing a big right hand and then a crisp combination. The fight was even through two so it really depends on if the judges scored the first 10-8. Brown got the takedown but was unable to get any offense going. Phan stood up and started working for a kimura before pushing away. The third was Brown working for takedown while Phan defended with kimura attempts. Phan defended the takedown well and used nice boxing. Brown was unable to land anything significant as the round ended. This round will be decided by Phan's boxing and takedown defense and Brown's persistent takedowns.
Mike Brown walked away with the Unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28). He really needed this win as his career has appeared to be on the down turn. Phan drops to 0-2 in the UFC and hopefully will get another shot in the UFC. Brown finally picked up his first win in the UFC since making his return to the promotion.
