Ebersole: W - Chris Lytle (UD) | W - Hamish Robertson (TKO) | W - Carlos Newton (UD)
How did these two get here?
With a lot of fights. Both of these guys are the kind of long-time journeymen who have fought everywhere, with over 130 fights between them. Hallman's been a pro since 1997, and for years he had the distinction of being the only man to hold two wins over Matt Hughes. Even more impressive? The combined total of those two wins is under 40 seconds. It was a bit surprising to see him brought back into the UFC in 2009, but he's made the most of it with wins over Karo Parisyan and Ben Saunders, and now finds himself in the highest profile fight he's had in years.
Ebersole is an 11 year pro who finally got his shot at the UFC earlier this year, handing Chris Lytle his first loss in two years. Ebersole has been embraced by a number of fans for his somewhat goofy demeanor and his unorthodox style, both of which work for him in the cage. Born in the US, he's been based out of Australia for the past few years, and this will actually be his first US fight since 2007.
Why should you care?
Ebersole is a ton of fun, and will make this an exciting match. Both are also absolute pros who should match up well to create a real tactical battle. This could be the sleeper fight of the show.
