The future for Dominick Cruz seems to be a little bit more muddled than first expected. The general consensus was that Brian Bowles would get a shot the UFC bantamweight champion if he defeated Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 132. He did exactly that, but apparently he's not the only guy in the running for the title shot. That's what matchmaker Sean Shelby told MMAJunkie, anyway:

"Could be Demetrious Johnson."

It was suspected that Bowles had broken his hand in Saturday's fight due to a conversation he had with his cornerman about it between rounds at UFC 132, but Dana White said at the post-fight press conference that Bowles didn't go to the hospital. We should find out more when the medical suspensions for the card are released.

Meanwhile, Johnson is on the shelf with a fracture leg bone from his controversial fight with Miguel Torres at UFC 130. It might be a while before Cruz defends again, which might not be the best news considering how important UFC 132's fight was for the popularity of the bantamweight division. Having the champ on the shelf again for a while could slow down the momentum the division has built off of this weekend, and that's not a good thing.
