How did these two get here?
Brian Bowles is a former WEC bantamweight champion that's looking to get his belt back, but this time it would have the letters UFC on it. Bowles finished four straight fights in the WEC before getting a title shot at then-champion Miguel Torres. He became the first person to ever knock out Torres and claimed the belt. Unfortunately he had some problems with his hands in his first defense. His broken hand forced a stop to the fight, and Dominick Cruz won his belt. Bowles was out for almost a year, but came back to submit Damacio Page in a rematch, picking up his first UFC victory in the process. Bowles is currently very close to getting another shot at the title.
UFC 132: Interviews | Results | Fight Card Takeya Mizugaki had an up-and-down career in the WEC. He arrived in grand fashion, getting a bantamweight title shot against Torres in his first WEC fight. He dropped a five-round decision in an excellent fight. He alternated wins and losses over his next six fights, emerging from the last one with a close decision win over Rueben Duran in his UFC debut.
Why should you care?
Two legit bantamweights tearin' each other up? Come on, you know you want to see that. Bowles could get the next title shot with a win here, and an upset by Mizugaki would re-launch him into the elite at 135. This should be on the main card, that's how good it is.
