What was the high spot of this fight?
The finish. Weidman clamped on a standing guillotine with about 5 seconds to go and it looked like it was a last-ditch attempt at offense before the horn went. But it was on extremely tight, and one crank was all it took for Bogfeldt to take at 4:57 of the first round.
Where do these guys go from here?
The sky's the limit for Chris Weidman. He's now 2-0 in the UFC as a late replacement in both fights, and looks extremely comfortable at all aspects of the game, except for maybe his defense on the feet. Who he fights next is entirely dependent on how Joe Silva wants to build him. If they are serious about him and his skills, he could get an upper-middle class 185er next. If they want to build him slowly, he's more likely to get an opponent around his experience level. Tim Boetsch has been suggested as an opponent, which could make a lot of sense.
Jesse Bongfeldt is now 0-1-1 in the UFC, but caught a tough break with Weidman being named as the replacement for Court McGee. If McGee's not out for long, they might go back to that matchup to see where each stands in the division. If not, a battle with James Head could make some sense.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Now. After getting hit a couple of times standing, Weidman put on a grappling clinic on the ground for most of the first round. And when he couldn't get the finish there, he slapped on that nasty standing guillotine. This man is a future star at middleweight and this is definitely worth watching.
