Middleweight prospect Chris Weidman continued his rise as he submitted Jesse Bongfeldt in the first round Saturday at UFC 131 in Vancouver.

The fight was all Weidman after a few tense moments at the beginning. After getting cranked with a head kick, the two-time All-American wrestler got a takedown and stayed on top of Bongfeldt, going from position to position with ease while working some ground-and-pound. Bongfeldt got to his feet with 30 seconds left and ate a knee. As the 10 second clapper hit, Weidman locked in a standing guillotine choke that was extremely tight and Bongfeldt almost immediately tapped.

The time of the stoppage was 4:54 of the first round.

Weidman told Joe Rogan following the fight that he popped his meniscus during the fight and was working to pop it back in.

Weidman made his UFC debut at UFC on Versus 3 in March, dominanting Alessio Sakara en route to a unanimous decision win. He moves to 6-0 for his career.

Bongfeldt made his UFC debut at UFC 124 in December where he drew with Rafael Natal. He drops to 15-5-1 overall. This is his first loss in more than four years.
