UFC 125
Official Fight Card

Main card
Lightweight Championship bout: Frankie Edgar (c) vs. Gray Maynard
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva
Lightweight bout: Clay Guida vs. Takanori Gomi
Welterweight bout: Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Middleweight bout: Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann

Preliminary card
Lightweight bout: Marcus Davis vs. Jeremy Stephens
Featherweight bout: Josh Grispi vs. Dustin Poirer
Welterweight bout: Daniel Roberts vs. Greg Soto
Lightweight bout: Jacob Volkmann vs. Antonio McKee
Featherweight bout: Mike Brown vs. Diego Nunes
Middleweight bout: Phil Baroni vs. Brad Tavares

Frankie Edgar in his last two fights has defeated BJ Penn and each time it was a comfortable victory. In the first of those two fights he won the UFC Lightweight Championship. Edgar only has one loss on his record and that was against Maynard the man he faces at UFC 125. Maynard is currently undefeated with 10 wins and 1 NC. This will be a fascinating fight to see how both how evolved in the past two and a half years.

We get to see a new UFC division on this card with Featherweight champion Aldo facing Grispi. Both fighters only have one loss on their record and looking at their past history I can't go past the champion Aldo who has already successfully defended his title twice. Will be interesting to see the intensity of this fight and how the crowd react to the smaller division.

Surprised that Thiago Silva has been relegated to the prelim card in his fight against Brandon Vera. I assume that if WEC wasn't on this card this fight would have made the main card. To me I think of Vera as someone who has some talent but against top fighters in his division he can't win. Thiago Silva is my pick by far for this fight, should comfortably defeat Vera.

Clay Guida, Nate Diaz and Chris Leben also being on the card should mean an exciting PPV.

I honestly have no clue who Josh Grispi is, I see he has some wins over some big names, and has only been past the first round once, but I don't see what he can do to Aldo. If Aldo is going to have trouble with anyone its going to be a wrestler with relentless takedowns.

Guida/Gomi should steal the show, Gomi is never in a boring fight and Guida is the most exciting lightweight in the UFC.

Hoping Dong Hyun Kim throws around Nate Diaz.

Stann is being built as a prospect for the future, and the guy is one of the classiest people I've ever seen in MMA.

Unfortunately Jose Aldo was injured during training and the fight has been cancelled. It is a shame that we will have to wait a few more months before we see the new division debut.

Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva move to the main card which I, in a backwards kind of way, predicted would happen if the WEC match wasn't there. I still think that Silva will win this and surely Vera must be nearing the end of his UFC career, he never has reached the heights that I thought he would reach and if he can't start a winning streak soon it could be curtains for him.

I haven't seen a Stann fight but was just reading up about him before and I am very impressed by his background. I can see why they would want to promote this guy, fantastic background and great attitude.

They seriously need a fight to promote soon, because this card just doesn't have anything, Edgar and Maynard couldn't get their families to watch them fight each other.

Aldo was the X-factor, but now he is gone.

Doubt this will get even 250 thousand buys.

UFC 125 is this weekend and I am actually going to be watching it at a friends house. We have been planning to get a UFC PPV for some time and even though this card isn't great it is on at a convinient time since I have the next day off work as well.

My tips for the maincard are:

Lightweight Championship bout: Frankie Edgar (c) vs. Gray Maynard
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva
Lightweight bout: Clay Guida vs. Takanori Gomi

Welterweight bout: Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Middleweight bout: Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann

So today I watched this PPV live and actually it turned out better than the card suggested it would be. There was one really boring fight and one dodgy decision but overall a good PPV.

Guida vs Gomi was a good start to the PPV although Gomi didn't seem right today. He just couldn't stop Guida who seemed to have drunk a dozen Red Bulls before the fight. The constant head movement seemed to put Gomi off as he rarely hit Guida. Good finish by Guida to get a step closer to a title shot.

Kim vs Diaz was an alright second fight. Kim easily controlled the first two rounds and Diaz rightly won the third but in the end left it all too late. Right decision but for some reason the crowd kept bowing the foreigners.

Vera vs Silva was such a boring fight and it was all because of Vera. I don't understand how he keeps getting fights on UFC PPV's since he hasn't done anything of note for a long time. Today he was pathetic all talk but no fight. Silva easily won the first round and then the two had words right after the bell. Then for the second round Vera just laid on the crowd doing nothing whilst Silva pounded on him. Start of the third round Vera knocked down Silva and then had his arms in the air like he had just slain the champion. Then it was more of the same with Vera cowering on the floor. Silva was then playing with him, slapping him in the face, playing the drums on his back and then spanking him. Thankfully at the end there was a nice surprise when we saw that Vera's nose had been completely re-arranged all over his face. Vera is a joke of a fighter and the crowd are idiots for cheering him

Leben vs Stann was short but exciting. Stann has awesome stand-up skills and took it right too Leben. Leben showed that he has a tough chin as he took three massive hits before the fight was finally stopped.

Mainevent was a great fight except I didn't like the decision. How Edgar survived that first round I don't know. Maynard dominated him and hit some huge shots yet couldn't finish Edgar who still had some jelly legs for the second round. Easily 10-8 for Maynard in the first round. With the next four rounds I had it Edgar, Maynard, Edgar, Edgar. No idea how one judged scored it 48-46 to Edgar, there was no way he was ahead for that fight. I can understand the 47-47 and even the 48-46 to Maynard but the 48-46 to Edgar was a joke. Interesting to see what happens next as Pettis is meant to fight the champion next. I think they should have Edgar vs Pettis and then the winner face Maynard as I can't see them keeping Pettis off for that long.

Overall good PPV.

I called it a draw before it was announced, Gray won the first round and Frankie won the second. Last three rounds were a even to me.

Brian Stann is still one of the classiest men in MMA and would like to see him fight Wanderlei.

DHK didn't throw around Nate Diaz like I wanted to, but he beat him and had a nice rehearsed promo after it.

Vera should be cut after this fight, the most inconsistant fighter next to Jardine. Don't believe the hype, believe in the results is what Vera once said, and the results are not good.

Stann is a classy guy. His interview after the fight was great as he only had compliments for Leben and had nothing bad to say at all. Great guy and I hope he goes far. I don't see why he would want Wanderlei next though, to me I see that as a step backwards. Wanderlei has only won 2 of his last seven fights and that was against Bisping and Jardine. I would have thought that Stann would aim a bit higher for his next fight.

Also I read that White has said that Edgar and Maynard will get an immediate rematch so Pettis will just have to wait for his title shot.

Wanderlei hasn't lost to scrubs, he has only lost to Rampage, Rich Franklin and Chuck Liddell, nothing to be ashamed of. Plus the fact that he would a high profile fight for Stann and would get more people interested in him.

Sucks for Pettis for sure, but this rematch needs to happen, it only helps a champion who quite frankly isn't high profile enough to headline a PPV, now that there is actula interest in Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, you have to strike while the iron is hot.

True he has lost to some big names but he just doesn't seem like the fighter he used to be. I will be surprised if he fights for much longer since I can't see him keeping up with the pace of the younger fighters. I predict that Stann will completely dismantle him and have another first round KO.

Yeah it has certainly helped the profile of not only the champion Edgar but also Maynard. Should get a lot more interest in their rematch PPV after this PPV didn't have a huge amount of interest. I will definitely buy the PPV for their rematch.
