There's nothing new on the Tyson Kidd injury (a spinal cord injury, essentially a broken neck) from last week. The impression I get is the injury is serious. Ever since the concussion lawsuits, WWE has been very secretive on releasing any information of injuries. The last we heard was that he may need surgery, which would be a lengthy absence, but that would depend on how tests were going. We do know that both Austin and Edge, both of whom have been around the block when it comes to neck surgeries, have called him for both moral support and experienced advice. We don't know he is getting similar surgery to what both went through, but it was definitely a possibility as of a few days ago, which would be more than a year out. Even though it appeared the 6/1 match in San Antonio against Samoa Joe was taped for Superstars, a WWE.comstory on the injury said it took place in a non-televised match, and acknowledged it being with Joe. We were told the injury was a complete fluke and not the result of dangerous execution of a move.

Well, if true: Fuck.

The call from Edge & Stone Cold is legit since Nattie tweeted it a couple days ago. Most likely legit.

Sucks for Kidd. He finally got on television again (after being shafted for so long, which is a shame for a guy of his in-ring caliber) in a role that complements him and his talents perfectly and then he ends up being put on the shelf for possibly the next year or more.

Kinda sucks for Joe, too. Not that it'll impact his career negatively or anything since the injury is already being put down as a freak accident, but it must suck seriously hurting a dude in your first official match (dark match or not) with the company.

Damn man. I was really happy that Kidd was getting decent TV time too.

Tyson Kidd Injury Update

As for Tyson Kidd, who noted on Twitter he will be undergoing surgery this week, the surgery will be the same neck operation that Steve Austin, Chris Benoit and Edge all had. The surgery is expected to keep Kidd out of action for over a year, as the usual return time table from that type of surgery is 14 months.

Unlike Daniel Bryan, Kidd is opting to have full surgery, as opposed to a temporary fix to the injury.

Per Meltzer on tonight's Observer Radio, Tyson Kidd's injury is being compared to the one suffered by Christopher Reeves, and most survivors of the injury end up being a quadriplegic. The odds are "astronomical" that he doesn't suffer the same fate as Reeves.

Jesus Christ.
