Two boys ages 13 and 14 have been wounded in separate shootings in Chicago, bringing to at least six the number of children who have been shot in the city in the last week.
The 13-year-old was found shot in the head in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side Tuesday morning, according to police.
Officers responding to calls of a person shot found the boy unresponsive in the 1300 block of West 91st Street at about 9:15 a.m., police said. He had a single gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he remained in critical condition, police said.
Police said they haven't located any witnesses and haven't been able to determine what happened. No arrests had been made.
Late Tuesday night, a 14-year-old boy was wounded in the neck and face near Washington Park on the South Side, police said.
The teen was walking with someone in the 6000 block of South Prairie Avenue just before 10:50 p.m. Tuesday when a third person opened fire, police said, citing preliminary information.
The boy was struck in the neck and also suffered a graze wound to the face, police said. His companion wasn't injured.
The teen was taken to Comer Children's Hospital at the
University of Chicago, where he was listed in serious condition, police said. No arrests had been made.
At least four other children 13 and younger have been wounded in the city since last Tuesday.
• On Wednesday, 9-year-old son Ivan Burns Jr. was shot in the head after he walked out the back door of his
Roseland home on the South Side to bring in their dog Sandy. He remains in critical condition.
On Saturday, two children ages 8 and 12 were wounded in separate shootings.
• Treyvon Robinson, 8, was shot while he played with friends in the front yard of his Englewood neighborhood, dancing to music from a birthday party a few houses down in the 7100 block of South Wood Street.
He suffered a gunshot wounded to the abdomen and was expected to be released from the hospital this week.
• On the other side of the city, a 12-year-old girl was playing with her friend at Mason Park, at Karlov and Maypole avenues, when a gunman emerged from a nearby alley and opened fire. The girl was wounded in her right ankle and left buttock.
• Early Sunday morning, a 13-year-old boy told police he was standing on the street in the 7200 block of South Campbell Avenue when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been shot in the leg, police said.
The boy was taken Holy Cross Hospital.
