Here is some early news on the coaching staff for this season. One man on Liddell's team caught my eye lol.

Ortiz taps McCullough, Soliz and Luciano "The Ultimate Fighter 11" assistant coaches
by John Morgan and Dann Stupp on Jan 25, 2010 at 7:15 pm ET

LAS VEGAS – With "The Ultimate Fighter 11" now in production, head coach Tito Ortiz today confirmed his assistant coaches: WEC fighter Rob McCullough, veteran trainer and "TUF 3" assistant coach Saul Soliz, and Brazilian ju-jitsu/judo black belt Cleber Luciano.

Ortiz today confirmed the selection with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) at a media day for "TUF 11," which debuts March 31 on Spike TV.

In addition to the coaches, Ortiz said he is reserving a spot on his staff for another type of coach: a public-relations specialist.

Ortiz said the PR coach will help him develop Team Ortiz competitors into "complete fighters" who understand all aspects of the business.

Team Ortiz fighters likely already learned one such lesson from the fighter/businessman. Ortiz today told MMAjunkie.com he received permission from Spike TV and TapouT (a company that sponsors "TUF") to wear Punishment Athletics gear. (His fighters, though, will wear the traditional "TUF" garb.) Ortiz owns Punishment Athletics and never misses an opportunity to promote the well-established brand.

Ortiz, who coaches opposite Chuck Liddell on the upcoming middleweights-only season, heads a "TUF" team for the second time; he and Ken Shamrock led rival teams on the third season of the show, which aired in 2006.

McCullough, a veteran fighter who trains with Ortiz in Huntington Beach, Calif., is a longtime WEC fighter who previously held the promotion's lightweight title. The 32-year-old has competed in pro MMA for the past nine years and owns a solid 17-6 career record.

Soliz, who has 20 years of training in Muay Thai and nearly a decade of Brazilian jiu-jitsu experience, is one of the sport's most respected trainers. In addition to Liddell, he's coached the likes of Mark Coleman, Melvin Guillard, Matt Hamill, Yves Edwards, Pete Spratt and other notables.

Luciano, who took up martial arts when he was just 5, earned his BJJ black belt from Royler Gracie when he was just 19 years old. In addition to being a respected trainer and accomplished judoka, he's competed and placed in many notable BJJ tournaments around the world.

MMAjunkie.com earlier today reported Liddell's coaching staff, which includes longtime trainer John Hackleman, former Olympic gold medalist boxer Howard Davis Jr., jiu-jitsu ace Scott Epstein, and Strikeforce champ Jake Shields

I am pretty sure this was talked about here before, but just thought I would post.

03/13/10 MAJOR UPDATE: Team Ortiz changes to Team Franklin???

Rich Franklin vs. Chuck Liddell in the works for UFC 115, not rumored April show
by John Morgan on Mar 13, 2010 at 12:55 pm ET
Light heavyweights Rich Franklin and Chuck Liddell are penciled in for a June showdown.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that the two have verbally agreed to face each other in June at UFC 115, though contracts have yet to be finalized.

The new matchup replaces a planned third meeting between Liddell and Tito Ortiz that had been expected for the promotion's first trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and may have been arranged as a result of Franklin's unexpected involvement in "TUF 11."

The Franklin vs. Liddell matchup was first reported by Fighters Only magazine, though the U.K.-based publication pinned the fight to a rumored April 17 UFC Fight Night card that now seems increasingly unlikely to occur.

Liddell and Ortiz were announced this past December as opposing coaches on the soon-to-debut "The Ultimate Fighter 11" series. At that time, the UFC also announced plans for the legendary figures to meet for a third time at the conclusion of the series.

It was later learned that the matchup was intended to headline the as-yet-unannounced UFC 115 card in June.

With Ortiz no longer in the plans, the former champion's next move is currently unknown.

In February, with "The Ultimate Fighter 11" still filming in Las Vegas, the "Hunting Beach Bad Boy" posted a series of cryptic messages on his Twitter account the led to many to speculate something had run afoul with his role as a coach on the Spike TV series.

"If things couldn't get worse, they just did!" Ortiz stated on Feb. 24. "[Expletive]! "I want to thank all my fans for your support!

"I guess business is business."

Three days later, additional Ortiz comments led to further speculation.

"Thanks for all the support," Ortiz stated. "Thinking that life couldn't get any harder? It just did! Another challenge that god has given me! Wow.

"Many things that challenge us in lives will make us stronger. One thing I can say is don't ever quit. I'm strong because of my family and fans!"

MMAjunkie.com has learned from additional sources that Ortiz was not able to complete the filming of "The Ultimate Fighter 11," though the reasoning behind his absence wasn't immediately known.

Those same sources suggested that Franklin was possibly brought in as a replacement coach to finish out the season's filming, and "Ace" now meets Liddell as an opposing "TUF" coach.

The original announcement of a third matchup between Liddell and Ortiz was met with little fanfare. Many MMA fans felt the matchup was unnecessary with the "Iceman" already owning a pair of wins over Ortiz – a 2004 second-round knockout and a 2006 third-round TKO.

Jake Shields on TUF as a assistant coach for Liddell. Interesting Dana would let it happen sicne Shields is the Strikeforce champ. Also Shields training other guys when he should be training for his match with Hendo in April? Either way it is good for him and for the guys he trains ebcause he is a really good grappler. just boring as shit lol. TUF is gonna be a really good season this eyar though.

For some reason I don't think the coaching staff is up to Dana White. Dana probably thinks the coaches for the season will make the right choices despite who they may be. He wants the best coaches for the fighters.

I think Shields see this as a good way for him to prepare for his bout, especially since its Middleweight season so he got alot of sparring partners. I think Dana just let them decide because what does he have to lose if a Strikeforce guy appear on his show? Nothing.

idk i guess the idea of giving the competitions champion air time on your show is a little weird. Like Vince telling AJ to come on over since he is the TNA champ and still under contract with TNA lol. but I get what you mean witht he sparring partner but also having to coach the guys up can be a distraction. I am really excitied about this season because tito talks so much shit it's amazing and even though Chuck can't talk some of his reactions I am sure will be priceless.

Well assistant coaches don't get that much air time to begin with. Plus its not like he will be advertising Strikeforce, but I would LOL if he would come out with a Strikeforce shirt lol

well Tiki was seen with rampage a lot last season. What if he showed up just wearing the Strikeforce Middleweight title just randomly around everywhere. Like Tim Sylvia status lol

^^^ He'll always be followed by camera crew. When filming, there will be people who knows what he's wearing way before the camera hits him so I doubt he will be able to.

To be honestly what I would like to see on TUF is some season have a past winner like idk Diego Sanchez or Matt Serra coach a team.

So far only that only TUF vets are Rashad and Forrest have coached teams. Matt Serra did coach a season I believe against Hughes.

I want to see Sanchez and Florian lead the next crop of Welterweights or Lightweights, culminating in a catchweight bout. It'll be awesome seeing the two first fighters from the Ultimate Fighter returning.

Seeing as how Florian has been talking crap about Diego that would be something to see, it might very well happen. Diego said he is going to WW but if Dana wants the fight to happen he just might change his mind. However neither guy has really been champ before. Coaches are usually former champs for the most part.

The fight can be at catchweight. Usually in a catchweight fight the younger fighter is unwilling to give that leeway to that bigger fighter but Florian say he's willing to fight at catchweight.

I believe Dana White chooses coaches based on marketibility, and past winners are definately marketable to the same crowd again. Bisping was not champion either.
