Tough to rank in order, so this is a collection of my favorite 10 horror movies.

The Shining - Stanley Kubrick's version. May be different from the book, but great acting from Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall.

Hatchet - A great homage to all of the slasher movies of the 80's, with creativity throughout. It may not be Gone With the Wind, but It's definitely fun.

Night of the Living Dead - George Romero's seminal zombie movie, featuring one of the greatest scenes ever filmed: a little girl killing her mother with a spade.

Friday the 13th part 3 - Jason gets his mask!

Halloween part 3 - While a departure from the canon of Halloween, this is a creative and imaginative thriller.

The Descent - using the claustrophobia and darkness of diving to the bowels of the Earth, the Descent delves to the heart of madness. Not a very happy movie.

High Tension - It may be subtitled, but hands down this is one of the best horror movies made in the last 25 years.

House on Haunted Hill - While the original is fun and Vincent Price is awesome, the remake is great in it's depictions of ghosts and building the suspense to the rather disappointing ending.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Spawning several sequels the original is shocking and has through the power of suggestion created a mystique around the film.

Audition - Takashi Miike filmed a strange movie, that's dark, drab and creepy. Featuring a terrifying and brutal climax, Audition is tough to watch, but even tougher to turn away from.

I dont know if alot of the movies on my list were scary because of my age when I watched them, but my list in no order reads as...

Psycho--The Original Hitchcock version

The Exorcist--Book was better, but this one still scared me and I love it.

The Shining-- Red Rum ftw

Monkey Shines-- Monkeys = creepy...no offense to anyone

Rosemarys baby-- Awesome movie

Amityville Horror-- The original one. Movies with children singing in them give me shivers, its just so wrong.

Pet Cemetary-- was younger when I saw this one but it scared me to death, not so mucxh anymore, but still a good movie.

The Omen--The original is always better than the remake, and in this case, the book was better than the original film. I had to read it twice back to back cuz I couldnt believe what I just read.

Rose Red-- very nice

Mikey-- I doubt anyone here has ever seen it, but its about a little boy who kills his family and then the foster family etc. Classic little sociopath he was. Its an old movie from like the 90s but Id recommend it to anyone who likes scary movies.
