Could AEW content be landing on a streaming service sometime soon? Tony Schiavone shared his thoughts.

During a recent edition of Ask Tony Live! on AdFreeShows, the legendary commentator was asked if AEW could one day launch a streaming service of their own, similar to what WWE did in 2014. Not knowing anything for certain, Tony offered up his opinion on the matter, saying the following:

"Yes, I do. I think we're going to see a streaming service -- This is my thought, I don't know anything for sure. Just by talking to people, I think there's going to be a streaming service by the end of 2022. So I think it's going to come up very, very soon. I do know that there were people in Warner Media that I knew, that I still know, that work in Warner Media that have nothing to do with AEW and told me that -- They said, 'You know that AEW is going to be part of HBO Max.' HBO Max has all these different -- They have DC. I remember asking someone in the front office, not Tony, I said, 'Are we going to be on HBO Max?' They said, 'Doubt it, until they want to come up with a lot more money.' So I think we're going to end up getting our own streaming service. I'm just trying to fill in all of the blanks here from what I've heard. It's not really on Tony's radar right now, but I'm sure there are people in the office that are working that out for him."

Earlier this month, Tony Khan revealed that he was talking to WarnerMedia about a potential streaming partnership and that he wants to figure out a solution for the fans. You can read his comments here.

Khan previously noted that he turned down a WWE Backstage format for AEW Rampage as he wanted to keep it strictly wrestling on network television.

Not the Tony I wanted to hear from :souness~1:

I kinda doubt end of 2022 if it's going to be just an "AEW streaming service" unless it's through Fite like the international one (which I'd like anyway) bc that shit seems hard af to get started up just judging by the WWE Network when it first started and other non wrestling ones that have just failed lol it's just Schiavone speculating here tho so I'm not reading much into it. Important part is that the plans are certainly being put in place

By the end of 2022 sounds fantastic, but honestly why not just unlock Fite's AEW Plus for the US and Canada in the meantime?

I'd imagine if they did they'd have to do something like WWE does where Raw and smackdown are uploaded weeks later or TNT would be mad.

Which doesn't sound like a bad idea still lol I have TNT so :lol

Might be a TV rights issue? I know the only reason we in the UK have Fite Plus is due to ITV not doing a live show and instead days later
