AEW & Ring of Honor head Tony Khan spoke to the media for an hour Thursday to help promote Friday’s ROH Death Before Dishonor — a call on which he said he has heard WWE PR people are spreading lies about his TV rights deal.

After answering a question, Khan made it a point to then add the accusation, saying he heard from a prominent wrestling media person that WWE PR has been telling others he already has a deal in place. He denied that and said AEW will have a great deal with a big increase regardless of what WWE is telling people.

He also confirmed that he is currently still in the exclusive negotiating window with WBD and continues to have positive conversations frequently about a new deal but there’s no timetable in place.

Khan was also asked about his take on unprotected chair shots to the head like the one Jack Perry took Wednesday in the Blood & Guts match. Khan didn’t want to give away the secrets and “art” of wrestling when answering and stood behind the health of their wrestlers following violent matches.

Other notes:
  • Khan said ROH has come up in conversation during the WBD media rights talks.
  • Khan said there will be more matches added to Death Before Dishonor.
  • Khan said the recent Jay White and Dalton Castle injuries caused a domino effect on the card as did the Skye Blue injury. He adds he gets more criticism for 5-6 match cards than if other companies did the same and that he gets more criticism in general.
