Tony Khan thinks Jack Perry is doing "great things" during his current run with NJPW.

Perry hasn't appeared for AEW since being suspended following his backstage altercation with CM Punk at All In last August. In January of this year, Perry debuted for NJPW at Battle in the Valley. Perry's NJPW debut included an angle where he ripped up his AEW contract.

Perry has used the nickname "Scapegoat" during his time in NJPW. He recently competed in the New Japan Cup, making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

ComicBook.com asked Khan if he's planning to continue this version of Perry's character if and when Perry returns to AEW television.

Khan responded:

Well, I think you gotta stay tuned. Absolutely, Jack’s doing great things in New Japan. The New Japan Cup - he’s had a great run. He’s established himself over there. He feels he’s the 'Scapegoat.' But he’s doing great things, and he’s wrestling for a great promotion, and it’s been great tracking Jack’s progress in New Japan. And I think he’s done excellent work there.

Punk's AEW contract was terminated with cause after the incident with Perry at All In. Punk then made his return to WWE at Survivor Series last November.

For now he essentially is, we just don't know how long. He's been in Japan for a month now working every single show tho

I get the “Scapegoat” name but I’m just not feeling it.

Maybe it’ll grow on me the more I hear it

First of all, doesn't sound like someone "angry" at Jack Perry, is it?

Second, I think the NJPW run is doing wonders for him. In an ironic twist, where often NJPW would send graduating Young Lions for excursions, right now this is acting as Perry's excursion. His character still needs some tweaks (like the Scapegoat nickname I think is fine for now, but won't long term, and the mask is WHAT THE FUCK!) But apart from that his promos are improving, his character has some more edges now and I hope he can be a more rounded performer whenever he'd return to AEW.

The scapegoat nickname is perfect because he was literally made a scapegoat. However the mask is very WTF for sure

Maybe try a Wyatt Family style mask as a goat, just with better materials?

Like, his reviews, take it or leave it. It's like a movie critic, someone's opinion, who, if you have some similar tastes, you can use as an indicator as to if you'll like something or not, but Jesus fuck the guy's been having so many misses as of late.

I think it's looking like he's no longer double or triple vetting his stories and just repeats any old thing fed to him - and I think AEW and WWE are taking the piss and using him for their gain

And my suspicion as to why he's doing it, I think a lot of his sources he previously had have dried up and I think all the new generation just goes to Sean Ross Sapp

Everything Meltzer said on the subject 100% felt like what the kayfabe scapegoat angle is supposed to be, I wonder if they considered trying to convince him that ripping up the contract was somehow valid this time

Although the meme of Jack Perry being punished by forced to join House of Torture turning out to be true might be another level of hilarious
