This past Saturday night at UFC 159, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones (18-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) tied the record of five consecutive successful light heavyweight title defenses set by Tito Ortiz back in 2002, by defeating challenger Chael Sonnen via TKO in the very first round.

Since then, the now retired former champ, Tito Ortiz, has tweeted that he would like to keep his record from being broken:

@TitoOrtiz: Well I may have to come out of retirement to beat JonnyBones I can’t let I’m beat my record. @Punishment99 #ufc159 #UFConXboxLIVE

Tito Ortiz (16-11-1 MMA, 15-11-1 UFC) went just 1-7-1 in his final 9 octagon appearances, so the chances of unretiring into a title shot seem pretty remote.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

That's all I'm gonna say.

More "trying to be proud" talk than anything. With a record like his last few fights, no chance.

The funniest part about this is - Even if Master T did come out of retirement, he definitely doesn't have the formula to beat Jon Jones.

At the moment it's hard to find anybody who does have a reliable game plan to beat him at the moment. I'm not saying it's impossible because every fighter has their weaknesses. But the person to beat Jon Jones would have to be someone who could close the distance and use vicious knockout power while possessing a top level guard to defend against Jones' vicious elbows. Somebody like a prime Nick Diaz, except at 205.

Sorry for the double post, but apparently Tito has been listening what we've been saying over here and has changed his tune on the issue.

Jon Jones has made history in the past and recently tied the record for most light heavyweight title defenses with five. The original keeper of that record, Tito Ortiz, has no problem with Jones looking to break it.

"If I'm under a person who holds the record, I think Jon Jones is the man [it should] be," said Ortiz on The MMA Hour. "I really don't see anybody to beat him. I don't think anybody can really get close to him. His mindset is perfect. I think it's how a champion should be."

The former champion and UFC hall of famer felt that Jones was so dominate thanks to his wrestling.

At Saturday's UFC 159, Jones made quick work of Chael Sonnen in the opening round. He won the title in March of 2011.

Ortiz retired at 16-11-1, where he fought almost exclusively for the UFC. He now runs Primetime 360 Entertainment & Sports Management Inc with his featured client being Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.

Jones has no return date inside the Octagon as he suffered a broken toe in the final moments of his win against Sonnen.

Now that sounds a little bit better :)
