Titan FC books Magalhaes vs. Brilz, Riddle vs. Landi-Jons title fights
Fresh off a win over over Raphael Davis at this past weekend’s Titan FC 28 event, Jason Brilz has been booked for a title fight.
Brilz (22-5-1) will fight fellow UFC vet Vinny Magalhaes (10-7), likely in August, for Titan FC’s vacant light heavyweight title, official announced. Event details, including a date, haven’t been announced.
Officials also announced that Matthew Riddle (8-3) and Jose Landi-Jons (28-15) will fight for the organization’s vacant welterweight title.
Brilz defeated Davis, Magalhaes’s replacement, via split decision in this past Friday’s Titan FC 28 headliner. The May 16 bout marked his fourth straight win since a 3-4 run with the UFC from 2009-2011. Although he posted 16 stoppages in his first 19 victories, his past three wins have come via decision.
The wrestler will face a jiu-jitsu ace in Magalhaes, who went 1-2 in his latest UFC stint (after going 0-2 in his first). Prior to the back-to-back losses to Phil Davis and Anthony Perosh, Brilz went 8-1 with eight stoppages to get an invite back to the industry-leading promotion. He signed with Titan FC soon after his UFC release this past August.
Riddle recently made his first post-UFC appearance and scored a submission victory over Michael Kuiper at Titan FC 27 in February. Prior to the win, Riddle was on the sidelines for a year while he contemplated retirement and had a falling out with Bellator. He’s currently riding a three-fight winning streak, though it’d be five fights if not for a pair of failed drug tests due to marijuana.
The experienced Landi-Jons, a 21-year MMA vet, makes his Titan FC debut at the event. The 40-year-old is in a bit of a career resurgence with five wins (and five stoppages) in his past six fights.
