Tina Fey Recruits The Intern
A new Nancy Meyers comedy
Source: Deadline
Tina Fey might still have her hands full running 30 Rock, but she’s also been finding plenty of work to do during downtime from the sitcom. She’s already considering the idea of starring in Paul Weitz’s Admission, and today brings word that It’s Complicated director Nancy Meyer has her attached to The Intern.
The plot will find Fey as the founder of a thriving e-business focused on fashion who agrees to take on an intern. But instead of the high school or college senior she was expecting, a man in his 70s arrives. Bored with retirement and looking to prove that he can still be useful, the new employee initially rubs his boss the wrong way, but he soon becomes essential.
“It seemed more interesting than having to see yet another thing set at an ad agency,†Meyers tells Deadline. “Tina’s character is much younger than me, but I was attracted to the pressures the character feels with her business, her husband and kids, and seeing all this from the point of view of a man who has been through it.â€
Intern is not the only film that Meyers is setting up to direct, however: she’s also recruited Felicity Jones for The Chelsea, which has a script by her daughter, Hallie Meyers-Shyer. Which one will get to go before cameras first? While it might all be decided by Fey’s availability and the casting process for Chelsea, we suggest the only way to solve that crucial question is a knockdown, drag-out MMA bout between Fey and Jones. Our money’s on Tina – she's a scrapper.
