Universal seemed to be steadfast on having Fast & Furious 7 out for the summer of 2014, but in doing so resulted in the lost of director Justin Lin who informed the studio that the tight schedule wouldn't bring out his best work so he's passing the ball to someone else. Already, the rumor mill has churned out some names as possible replacements over the weekend.
Acccording to Latino Review, Universal is looking at Jeff Wadlow, Brad Furman, and Harald Zwart to take over the driver's seat for Lin. They're "the top three contenders are for the gig," suggesting there may be more candidates.
All three will have a movie out in theaters later this year and with a summer shoot planned, it may be difficult for any of them to finish their respective movies, do promotions, and prep and shoot the next Fast & Furious. It's possible, of course, but difficult and it goes back to the quality of work Lin suggested may get compromised with such a compressed schedule.
However if any of the three is going to do it, it'll probably be Wadlow since his movie, Kick-Ass 2, comes out first, and he already has a working relationship with Universal.
So Lin says no more and they want to make another. I thought they were filming 6 and 7 together. Oh well it sounds like its going back to LA where the first started and tie things up.
