I never liked the Honky Tonk Man, he was pudgy and had no muscles on him. Plus his wrestling was the shits, not sure how this guy had so much pull he could flat out refuse jobs.

I always loved when Ventura would defend him on commentary since he was a heel. "You know, some people are just lucky. Honky is a lucky wrestler."

I liked the HTM gimmick because it was insulting the King of the Rock 'N' Roll how could you not get heat doing that during the 80's. Also he did play it to perfection, and with Hart and the cheesy music it was awesome.

By the time he went over to WCW it had run its course, and yeah the no jobs things was a joke!

Elvis was already dead by time :foley:

My fave story is about how Dynamite knocked him out with a bitchslap because he had the balls to make fun oif Harley Race losing a foot of intestine "You ain't got the guts anymore Harl".

What difference does that make? John Lennon has been dead for years but he is still considered an icon. And you can bet than if a wrestling promotion in Liverpool had a character taking the piss out of Lennon that would draw awesome heat too.

Because Elvis was only big in Memphis right? Besides the gimmick got over so I don't think you can really argue with the logic.

You saying "taking the piss out of Lennon in Liverpool" is slightly different than shitting on Elvis in 'Murica.

I'm sure there are parts of England/UK that couldn't give two shits about John Lennon.

Yes, but if you did it in Liverpool today there is a chance it would get heat because rightly or wrongly they still hold him up as a god there.

I think the Honky character worked partly because of the time frame, and in someways Elvis being dead made him get more heat.

Elvis impersonators were a dime a dozen, and still are. hardly heat magnets because foreigners took that role back then.

Pudgy fuck in a jumpsuit was only worth a shit because of Jimmy Hart.

That my friend is the sight of you clutching at straws to try and win a debate you are clearly losing. If you think that the HTM character was a mere Elvis impersonator then I can't take your opinion serious on this one.

I'm not even a fan, and think he has turned out to be a really nasty, bitter old fart now, but to say he never had anything to offer is pushing it.

That's the only straw to use. He was just an Elvis impersonator.

We having a debate? What's the actual debate? You change the topic, everytime I respond.

Honky got more heat because Elvis impersonators were so common and annoying, not because he was making fun of Elvis.

Somehow this is going to make him right, even though it totally justifies my 293145678972 counterpoints to his wormhole discussion.
