Another light heavyweight fight has been booked, and it’s a barnburner.
Thiago Silva will fight Stanislav Nedkov at UFC on FUEL TV 6: Le vs. Franklin, which takes place Nov. 10 at CotaiArena in Macau, China.
Glenn Robinson, Silva’s manager, confirmed the news with veteran MMA journalist Jack Encarnacao during tonight’s edition of “SRN Rewind.â€
Silva (14-3 1 NC MMA, 5-3, 1 NC UFC) returns to the cage after pulling out of a scheduled UFC 149 bout with Mauricio “Shogun†Rua due to injury. After serving a year-long suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission after altering a urinalysis test following his victory over Brandon Vera at UFC 125 (later changed to a no contest), Silva returned to the cage this past April at UFC on FUEL TV 4 and suffered a unanimous decision setback at the hands of Alexander Gustafsson. Still, Silva is a very dangerous fighter and the fight with Nedkov should be fun.
Nedkov (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is coming back to the cage after a year-long-plus absence due to a variety of injuries. In his UFC debut last August at UFC 134, Nedkov finished veteran Luiz Cane with a blistering first-round TKO that drew eyeballs to him. But he hasn’t been able to keep healthy and it’s been rumoured he turned down the fight with Gustafsson at UFC on FUEL 4 before Silva stepped in. However, now healthy, he should make for a terrific opponent for Silva, as both fighters have heavy hands and aren’t afraid of banging, making this a fan-friendly matchup.
It’s expected the Silva vs. Nedkov matchup will be a part of the televised main card of UFC on FUEL TV 6, which is headlined by a middleweight tilt between Rich Franklin and Cung Le and which is the UFC’s first event in China.
Nice to see him back, if he wins impressively i wouldn't mind them doing the Vera rematch as Vera looked good in his fight with Shogun and still want to fight Silva from what I've read.
