The UFC has announced the main event for its return to Australia, as welterweights Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann will meet. UFC Sydney: Alves vs. Kampmann will go down on March 3 from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia. The show is expected to be shown live on FX Network that Friday before due to the time difference.

"Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann are two seasoned mixed martial artists who are sure to go to war in the Octagon," said Marshall Zelaznik, head of the UFC's international development. "Both athletes are coming off recent wins and will be looking to continue their streak to climb the welterweight ladder."

Alves (24-7) topped Papy Abedi at UFC 139, putting himself back on the right path. "The Pitbull" is a former challenger to UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, and holds wins over the likes of Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck and Chris Lytle.

Kampmann (18-5) stopped Rick Story in his last fight after suffering losses to Diego Sanchez and Jake Shields. "The Hitman" is 9-4 in his UFC career.

Along with Alves-Kampmann, the card will feature the opening round matches in the UFC flyweight tournament, as Demetrious Johnson meets Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez collides with Yasuhiro Urus--tani.

"The UFC is thrilled to return to Sydney for its third live event in three years," Zelaznik said. "It's going to be a great show."

Not happy that we get the opening rounds of the flyweight tournament. I don't really want to see this division and I definitely don't want to see two of these fights on the show.

Mainevent is alright but not as big as the one we have recieved in previous years. Hopefully some good fights are added to the card.

Last time they were down in Australia they had a really good card, had Nogueria/Velasquez and Wanderlei Silva and Bisping as main events, if i'm not mistaken. Likely won't be anything like that this time around but it should be a decent card.

Yeah it was really good last year. We should get Sotiropolous and Noke fighting on this card as well since they are both Australian and Mark Hunt may get on the card as well if he still has any fights left with UFC.

Great fight.

Picking Kampmann, as hes a dark horse in the division.

Alves is legit, but has shit stamina and is kinda predictable.
