Generally I have been enjoying the women's wrestling I have seen form the 2016 events. They headlined a main event (last minute decision) and they had the 1st Womens HIAC.
Of course women's wrestling has been around for a while but it generally has been 1 or 2 wrestlers with some tokens that often can't wrestle being used because they are hot. Chyna was popular and she was kind of average in the ring, Sable was terrible in ring and on promos (she had boobies though) and in the 90's Alundra Blayze/Medusa was good at you know wrestling.
Chyna was the 1st women to enter the Royal Rumble and only one to win the intercontinental title. There was also discussion around making Chyna the Heavyweight Champion. Now there are a few things that Womens wrestling could do though.
1. World Heavyweight/Universal Champion
2. Headline one of the big 4 events and have it promoted as such earlier ( Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series)
3. Wrestlemania.
Now I do not think the Women's wrestling should get any of those things "just because" but if they are popular enough or plausible enough sure why not. Some of the women are over with the crowd and some of their gimmicks would not work at all with male wrestlers (Charlotte and Natalya for example) Being the daughter instead of the son they can pull it off though as the gimmick is different. enough. A male using a variant of their fathers theme music would not go down well.
One of the main reasons I like it over say bra and pantie matches is because if you watch wrestling long enough things start to become repetitive. Probably why James Elsworth is over with the fans as well having a jobber in the main picture. Even I like that gimmick.
Now women vs male wrestlers has always been hard to book and has other considerations as well such as men hitting women or some of the male wrestlers refusing or being reluctant to put over a women. Sexism aside they do have a point as Marc Mero put over his wife Sable but it did his career 0 favours. They seem to have made an exception for Chyna but that was at least somewhat believable and she was massively over as well. IIRC Austin lost to her as well but IDK how true that is.
Put simply having say Bayley take on Lesnar that would be a silly match for the same reason if you used Elsworth instead of a women. Short of a massive interference or something like a cattle prod being used it would be silly if Bayley won that match for example.
Someone like Nia Jax or Chyna taking on AJ Styles is a lot more believable especially if there is a belt involved such as the IC or one of the main titles.
So yeah I would like to see something like one of my 3 scenarios come to pass if it is a fun match and the booking makes sense. Bayley wins the title Womens title one day and Charlotte wins the Universal or Heavyweight title would be fun if it was booked right. Even winning a money in the bank event as long as it was booked right and it was a good match I would be all for it.
