UFC Director of Operations for Canada Tom Wright is a very busy man. While the U.S. remains the main source of UFC events, the country to the north is also a very important area that the fight promotion has tried to lasso. Wright, the former commissioner of the Canadian Football League, is the man in charge of helping spread the growth to many different provinces in the country.
During a recent interview with SportsNet.ca after helping get MMA more notoriety in Ottawa, Wright discussed where future shows could be headed in Canada along with the status of TUF Canada.
“We’re just putting the final touches on the 2013 schedule,” Wright said. “It’s too early to announce it, (but) we’ll announce things sooner than some people think.”
He also added that the UFC is confirmed for Toronto and Montreal for 2013-2014.
As for TUF Canada, Wright said the show will use the pre-taped format, adding, “Every time you do a TUF, you’re going to learn something new, so there will be tweaks that will happen.”
Additionally, Wright added that the show will likely be filmed in 2013, though he offered no further insight to weight classes or possible coaches.
Not sure there's many unknown Canadian fighters out their that haven't already migrated onto the UFC roster, but who knows. Expecting GSP to coach this as well.
