Okay, this is meant to be a bit of a discussion.
As we as smart-marks are very well aware, WWE for a long time has been grooming Roman Reigns as their next big star. I mean, I can give them credit in that Roman has improved a hell of a lot in many aspects, but other than merchandise, where he is tied with AJ Styles as the second highest merchandise seller behind John Cena, he has been not seen as "the favourite" by fans. Typically on Raw his reactions can be anywhere from Mixed to pure boos, but on the spectrum from cheered to booed, he is mostly falling in the latter half. There are wrestlers, even in non-smarky crowds, who are cheered over him. Not to mention that, if WWE would put their attention towards another wrestler, giving them great designs for their merchandise, there is always the chance that their merchandise can match or even surpass the biggest dog in WWE.
I myself am even very disinterested in Roman as of late. Maybe part of it is the negativity in general spreading, the booking, the prolonging of his chase for the belt, the possible attempts from WWE to either edit crowd reactions or other forms of manipulation to make him appear more popular, rationalize booing from the crowd as "then having fun" almost every other week, and partially maybe just the pain from the first attempts to push him as a singles star still in my memory (The TLC botched promo, the Royal Rumble 2015, and the general build to the WM match being rather poorly booked overall), so really, the crowning of him as the face of Raw has been very tedious and unexciting. We have AJ Styles as the face of Smackdown, and Roman is meant to be the face of Raw. But, with the Universal Champion being mainly a rare attraction over the past year, who is really the face of Raw, or who rather should be the face of Raw at least according to WWEforums.
This is not the same as this thread here, as this thread focuses more on who should take the belt of Brock Lesnar, but instead, this is more who is the babyface which gets you the most excited about Monday Night Raw.
With this, other than Roman Reigns, who if you still see as your face of the brand then it is fine, we all have our opinions, who right now do you see as the best babyface on the Raw roster?
To start, I present two names.
Everyone's Favourite Monster
Braun Strowman, a man who about two years ago fans saw as green and boring as part of the Wyatt family, is now perhaps is someone who brought the hoss style of wrestling back to WWE. Growing in popularity as a destructive monster, starting at crushing jobbers to having a very underrated storyline with Sami Zayn late 2016, then moving on to the Big Dog where his popularity spiked, he has left a path of destruction, destroyed and flipped over almost everything possible, turned babyface after turning on The Miz, Kane, and The Bar against the Shield and Kurt Angle at TLC, Braun Strowman has won the hearts of many and has urged foes to "Get these Hands." In an age of 50/50 booking, he has been one of the few who has been immune from it with him, aside from some big losses, rarely loses clean on free TV. He won the Greatest Royal Rumble and got the fact a 10 year-old kid became champion in WWE over, and he has popularity to spare. The only thing I wonder is when will his charm wear off? Braun has mixed in some comedy with his pure badassery (if that is a word) to keep things fresh, but there has been a trend of many monsters losing their edge. Not to mention that if he is on top for too long, then there is always a risk of the fans tuning out. But, he's still an exciting part on Raw every week and right now, as seen from Last Week's Raw, he's over with the crowd.
Seth Freakin' Rollins
A presence in the main event scene on and off for a few years and had one of the greatest endings to a Wrestlemania in recent history, Seth Rollins has had some ups and downs over the past few years but I've noticed over the past while has really come in his own as a potential top babyface. Even as the top heel in WWE with his title run in 2015, there was an underlying appreciation from fans of his ability. His title run was seen as mixed due to the 50/50 booking that plagued him as champion with some of his biggest wins being marred in controversy, making the heel champion be seen by fans as too cowardly, yet when his injury happened, the fans craved his return as a babyface. They eventually got it, but WWE pulled the trigger later than they should and it hurt his momentum as a top face for a long time, with his character not feeling as strong. His feud against Triple H was a step in the right direction, but after he lagged behind in the mid-card. That was until the reformation of his partnership with Dean Ambrose (and later a Shield Reunion). But that partnership addressed a lot of the problems of his character, with him repenting the sins of the Shield and a certain fire came back to his promos. Adding in workrate like no other, and his hour-plus performance on Raw to show that fire, he's really grown as a great babyface. Not to mention that he is still one of the highest merchandise sellers in WWE, he can fill that role. Plus, with Raw's world title not appearing on Raw much, he is currently the top singles champion regularly on Raw. This was especially true last night after Raw went off the air, he cut a promo which was genuinely touching off the cusp. The link for it is right here and it is only a few minutes long. While it may be a smarky choice, and right now he is in the midcard champion role, Seth Rollins could be the guy to not just chase a top heel for the world title, but take it from them and put on PPV matches you want to see? Not to mention that there could always be a level of unpredictability of when he may drop the belt.
So, what do you think, WWEF? Do you believe the Big Dog should still be the top babyface on Raw? Or do you think someone different should take that place?
