Qualifying Round: [Taking place on Raw & SD in the weeks prior to PPV. Note: Faces on the left]
1. MVP v Carlito
(Very competitive match - Lots of near falls. Playmaker on Carlito for the 1,2,3 after MVP grabs the ropes to prevent an attempted Back-Cracker.)
2. Evan Bourne v Seamus
(Bourne puts up a good fight, but eventually succumbs to Seamus's power. Backbreaker + pump kick combo for the pin.)
3. Kofi Kingston v Jack Swagger – Double Countout
(Bucking heads at bell-time, tempers are at full stretch by the time the bell sounds as Swagger feels the Kofi dismissed him during his pre-match promo. Two top contenders eliminated early a la Hogan/Andre @ WM4... Both guys ‘protected’ in order to go off and fued.)
4. Chris Masters v The Miz
(Masters became face after regularly performing the dancing six-pack routine on Raw... Miz cuts a promo on Masters prior to the match, saying that he’s a mere sideshow gimmick, Masters hits the ring before his music drops, the bell rings and we’re off... Miz gets dominated, but eventually slithers out of a Master-lock attempt, schoolboys Masters whilst grabbing the ropes for a cheap pin.)
5. Mark Henry v Chavo Guerrero
(Ding Ding... Chavo swings at Henry and misses.. Henry picks him up... BOOOM... WSSlam.... Pin. Quite literally, a squash!)
6. Matt Hardy v Dolph Ziggler
(Classic back and forth action with lots of counter-wresting... Ziggler gets the fall after reversing the Twist Of Fate and hitting the Zig Zag.)
7. John Morrison v Drew McEntyre
(McEntyre finally shows some justification to all the hype surrounding him; fusing the aggression we've come to expect with a Regal-esque ground & pound mat game, taking Morrison to the limit before JoMo eventually turns things around with a firey come-back. Starship Pain and the Shaman Of Sexy is thru to the qtr's.)
8. Finlay v Mike Knox
(Nothing pretty about this one... Straight up brawl... Finlay gets bumped into the ref and the ref stays down... Knox reaches for the shileighleigh (SP FFS!?!?!), Finlay kicks him in the gut, Knox drops the sh.. sh... fuck-it! ...the IRISH STICK THING(!)... Finlay grabs it and clobbers Knox only to be seen by the ref. DQ.. Knox progresses to the next round.)
Quarter-Finals [Taking place @ KOTR PPV]
1. MVP v Seamus
(After a strong start to the match, MVP thanks to initially missingan early attempt at the Ballin’ Elbow, gradually finds himself struggling to match Seamus’s striking game and thus tries to take the match to the mat without much success... The clock is now ticking... Seamus dominates further hitting a succession of high impact moves before getting rolled up by MVP as he turns his back on Porter to pose to the crowd. MVP reaches the semi’s... JUST!)
2. Mark Henry v Dolph Ziggler
(Ziggler’s in control of this one from the off thanks to a combo of his speed and amateur skills... Ziggles goes for the Zig Zag to finish Henry off but Henry stays on his feet leading to Ziggler taking a seriously stiff landing on his back in the process; thus winding him and opening up the opportunity for Henry to put Ziggler down with the WWSlam. Henry looks unstoppable. Does the whole ‘Mexican Wave’ thing with the crowd... MVP looks on from backstage lightly applauding to express his approval.)
3. MIZ automatically qualifies for the semi’s with a buy thanks to the elimination of Swagger & Kofi in the previous round...
(That’s not to say he doesn’t come out to the ring to gloat over his ‘victory’ and his securing a place in the semi-final.)
4. John Morrison v Mike Knox
(Knox attacks JoMo before the bell and brutalises him for the majority of the match. Miz is shown backstage looking on via a monitor laughing to himself. The beatdown continues, but JoMo won’t stay down... Frustrated, Knox climbs to the second rope to try and finish of The Guru Of Greatness only to miss a splash. JoMo hits that wicked knee to the head as Kox sits up, then a standing moonsault followed by Startship Pain and Knox is outta there! The commentary team proceed to go wild about JoMo’s toughness and ‘testicular fortitude’ and that he could have what it takes to win the whole tourney.)
Semi-Finals [Taking place @ KOTR PPV]
1. MVP v Mark Henry.
Visibly conflicted by the thought of going to war with his buddy, Mark Henry makes his way down to the ring, but only half-way there, MVP’s music hits, he catches up with WSM, whispers something in his ear, seemingly putting Henry at ease and they make their way down to the ring together, but as Henry begins to climb into the ring MVP strikes a vicious blow to his knee with a chain he’d been concealing... Henry fends off the rest of MVPs initial attack and whilst MVP climbs into the ring to re-group, the ref checks on Mizzark; asking if he can continue...
A true face, Henry says he’ll battle on and the match begins only for MVP to chop-block him almost instantly. MVP continues to brutally work the leg and knee without significant ‘reply’ from Henry, eventually getting an inevitable submission by figure-four.
MVP post-match promo: MVP grabs the mic and cuts a promo to the tune of the following:
*Drafted to Raw & left to rot.
*Never given a rematch for his US title.
*A guy of his calibre deserves better.
*Buries Henry as fat, the weak link of the team etc, would be unified tag champs if it wasn't for him letting his guard down and getting knocked out by Big Show.
*No-one will give him the ball so he’s gonna TAKE it.
*He's been waiting for the right opportunity to TAKE control of his own destiny and here it is.
*It doesn't matter who wins the next match, cos he's just 2 inevitable wins away reclaiming his rightful title of ‘THEE most valuable CHAMPION’ in WWE.
2. John Morrison v The Miz
...and thus another chapter in the on-off fued between these two former tag partners. Still their respective brands mid-card champs and with a place in the KOTR final on the line, the bragging rights and stakes here couldn’t be higher. Although Miz seems to be working directly from the textbook of classic heel manoeuvres (holding the ropes to assist leverage, obscuring the ref to deliver low blows etc. like some bastard offspring of a prime Ric Flair), a highly competitive match ensues... Things eventually break down and spill out to the floor where JoMo misses a cross-body from the ring apron, narrowly making it back into the ring before the 10 count.... Miz attempts a cover but JoMo gets his foot to the rope, not seeing this Miz starts baggin' the ref only to afford JoMo a little recovery time... Miz goes back on the offensive only to have his punches blocked as JoMo starts to feel the crowd getting behind him.... A lariat, a slam and a couple big elbow drops and Miz is reeling'... JoMo hits the Moonlight Drive only for Miz to kick out(!), undeterred JoMo sets up for Starship Pain, Miz moves but JoMo see's it coming, lands on his feet, spins round and delivers a lethal lookin' insiguri to the back of Miz's head; ladies and gentlemen we have our second finalist.
Morrison cuts a back-stage promo saying how he saw what MVP did earlier in the evening and he’s not only gonna beat MVP to become KOTR but will serve up a little retribution for wronged locker-room fave, the WSMam.
Final [Taking place @ KOTR PPV]
1. John Morrison vs MVP
MVP Jumps JoMo before the bell… He's a man on a mission and blatantly wants to end this for JoMo before it even starts ….A brawl immediately kicks off outside the ring, MVP reaches for a chair which JoMo dropkicks into his face… Before you know it they're rolling around on the floor and it's total chaos - The ref has no semblance of control and is just about to signal for the bell… Next thing you know "No Chance In Hell" hits the speakers and VKM from the top of the ramp, mic in hand says:
"There's seemingly a certain amount of ill feeling between the two of you. Now, there's no way I’m gonna have the return of this most prestigious of tournaments spoiled by crowning your KOTR by means of some sort of DQ or c/out decision. I'm making this match a street fight....RING THE BELL!"
The bell rings and, seemingly oblivious to the announcement, JoMo & MVP continue to attempt to rip each other apart. Eventually the action finds it's way back into the ring where MVP unleashes a mixture of chokes holds (at one point bringing the chain back into play) and a mat assault looking to take out the legs of, and thus ground, the athletic Morrison. Tables are turned when JoMo eventually mounts a comeback after MVP misses a high kneedrop to the face and then also misses a hastily executed drive-by kick. All’s going well for JoMo who now has the upper hand and has MVP set up for Starship pain when suddenly Miz appears back at ringside taunting Morrison who loses focus for a moment... MVP gets back to his feet and rushes JoMo (who’s leaning over the ropes calling Miz into the ring) from behind who uses MVPs own momentum to throw him through the ropes and knock Miz down in the process. JoMo leaps to the top rope delivering a 450splash to the outside, hitting the pair of them...
JoMo struggles to drag MVP back into the ring and upon eventually succeeding goes for the cover... Miz reaches into the ring and breaks the pin by dragging Morrison off of Porter by the leg. Furious, JoMo springboards off the top rope into a Huricanrana on Miz, then dives back into the ring and goes for Starship pain on the still grounded MVP but MVP puts his knees up as Morrison lands leaving him wide open for MVP to finish him off... He goes for the playmaker, but JoMo reverses into a Midnight Drive attempt which is in turn also countered and JoMo get’s ‘posted’ in into the corner. Smelling victory, MVP drops the balling elbow and follows up with the Drive-by Kick narrowly earning the 3 count mere split seconds before Morrison’s shoulder comes up...
"Ladies & Gentlemen... Your winner and the 2010 King Of The Ring AND the man to face WWE champion John Cena at next month's Summerslaaam PPV extravaganza…. Montel Vontavious Porter… EMMM VEEE PEEE‼‼"
