Welcome to another installment of the greatest column in the history of the IWF, because as far as I know it’s the longest running. This week, we are going to get around to everyone’s favorite segment on the No Smark Zone, Fact or Fiction. I also got a semi-request for some fantasy booking, and I will give my own No Way Out review. First up, the ever popular, Fact or Fiction!
This time for FF we have everyone’s favorite pot smoking primate Monkeystyle, Tito Santana’s illegitimate love child, Soulpower, the man who will make you sleep with the fishes, (Tony) Montana, and the whitest black man since Uncle Tom, Rell. And then there’s some other fuck too, his opinions always suck >_>.
The WWE started the year off right with a great showing at the Royal Rumble.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. If by started off right you mean pissed off a bunch of their fans, then sure. I'm no fan of John Cena, but whatever he's there and is likely going to be for a while, and I have accepted that fact. That however still doesn't change the fact that he was entirely the wrong choice to win the Rumble. Shock win or not. The WWE would've been much better served keeping Cena out until at least after WM (SummerSlam would've been better) and letting the current storylines run without him.
Rell: Fact - Due to a number of resources, the Shock factor in wrestling has been non-existing lately. The fact John Cena's return was kept a secret, speaks volumes on what wrestling could, and should be. The fact that the WWE was able to surprise general and internet fans alike, is definitely is a positive. Hopefully, for the sake of the fans, The E will be able to put together more shows at this level.
Montana: Fact. The Royal Rumble PPV was another solid showing. The matches were solid and the Royal Rumble match told a story and delivered. Edge vs Rey Mysterio was a very under rated matchup. Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy had a lot of hype around it. The Royal Rumble match was booked close to perfectly with Taker and HBK kicking it off. Then it came down to a point where HHH was the only worthy contender to win, before Cena came out. Big shocker at the end. All wwe ppv's should follow this formula.
Soulpower: Fiction: Though I'll admit that Cena's return was great.. The rest of the show didn't feel that way. After all the hype, Orton vs Jeff was a bit underwhelming and the anti-climatic finish didn't help either. I expect a great show when its one of the big four PPV's, this one was simply a good show.
Kaedon: Fact- No match was below 3 stars, the crowd was fucking hot, and the Rumble itself was one of the top 3 of all time. There were surprises, like HBK and Taker starting off and John Cena coming back, there were guys, like Batista, showing that they are more than just a body and going for 30+ minutes, the legends returned, and there was legitimate wonder as to who would win when it came down to the last 2. Overall the PPV will probably be looked on as one of the best of the year and it was indeed a great way for the WWE to start off 2008.
If TNA get back to their original formula of more action and less promos, it will help them to overcome the WWE in the ratings.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. its all advertising. I read somewhere the other day, I can't remember where but it was credible or I wouldn't have bothered remembering it. Anyway it turns out that Canada will no longer be showing the RoH ppvs due to low purchases. Were talking low hundreds purchases here. RoH in my opinion has probably the best wrestling in North America, but because there was practically zero advertising no one was going to buy it. TNA needs to do something drastic like buy seats in the first few rows by ringside on the camera side and attract some attention because what they're doing right nwo is not working.
Rell: Fiction - Improving the product will not necessarily help ratings. In fact, it wouldn't help at all. Unless Jesus Christ grants TNA a miracle, and they're able to sign a mega-star ie The Rock, Austin, etc. You can expect the same results which include mediocre ratings.
Montana: Fiction. Its going to take a lot for TNA to over come the wwe. Personally i can't see TNA defeated wwe, unless they go head to head, and create a huge buzz with another BIG signing. Even then, way too many things need to go in tna's favor to be considered competition.
Soulpower: Fact: They can build characters and feuds without needing to go TO THE BACK every 2 minutes for some wacky (often crappy) backstage segment. TNA claims that "We are Wrestling". Maybe they should let their talent do that, wrestle. If emulating WWE isn't getting anywhere, why not try a different approach?
Kaedon: Fiction- TNA’s old model wasn’t appealing to a mass crowd so they changed. It was an alternative, but so what, different doesn’t mean better. WCW was pretty much the WWE with older talent. On a base level they were the same because that’s what the fans were buying. Wrestling fans today have had ample chance to get a taste of TNA’s older style and they didn’t give a shit.
The surprise departure of Bobby Lashley will not really affect the WWE as they have many other stars to build around.
Monkeystyle: FACT. Bobby who? He won't be missed at all.
Rell: Fact - Bobby Lashley is not a draw. Sure, due to his successful run in "ECW" he's a name, but he isn't isn't a staple. WWE has more than enough star-power to remain elite. Guys like MVP, Kofi, and CM Punk are huge bright-spots for the future. All in all, Chock Lesnar's departure will have no affect realistically.
Montana: Fact. Bobby Lashley who?? In my opinion he didnt really have a lot to offer. He just wasn't a guy who a instant sucess. He was forced down our throats and made to look like a superhero.
Soulpower: Fact: In the eyes of WWE, Lashley was a star. But even after he took part in the Vince-Trump storyline, the fans weren't exactly going nuts over the man. In a couple of years we will only remember Lashley as the dude that says bathurd instead of bastard.
Kaedon: Fiction- This is another case of a guy getting pushed too fast. Sure the fans liked him, but if history has taught us anything it’s that stars that take their time to build and grow over time, are the ones who last. Part of the reason is, you find out who is gonna suck their scrotums in and go home because they cant hang with the travel schedule. But the fact remains, there are tons of guys who will be able to take his place.
The WWE are cheapening the gimmick of the Elimination Chamber by having two of them on the same card and basically setting one of them up to fail.
Monkeystyle:. I dunno I'm reserving judgement on this one until I see them. I don't have a problem with two EC's in one night, but you're right it will be very easy for one to eclipse the other. PUSH.
Rell: Fiction - The only people who will have a problem with this are the "internet fans". WWE isn't out to please internet fans. WWE is out to please general fans. The general fans aren't complaining, if anything they're thrilled, so I see no problem.
Montana: Fact. Its almost like a annual tradition to have ONE. not TWO. They should be making it seem like a deadly structure rather than rushing two big time matches. It think they will end up being good, just short. But i dont see the reason to over shadow Wrestlemania.
Soulpower: Fact: Not only are they cheapening the gimmick, but after seeing who will be the paricipants in the SD Chamber. I think the WWE is making the match look like crap.
Kaedon: Fact- I think it is wrong to have two of the same gimmick matches on the same PPV. I mean this is supposed to be a main event match. Add that to another chamber, three world title matches, and a retirement match, any one of those matches, on their face, could be a main event. Now, this question was posed to the other guys before the PPV and I am just answering now, so my answer will be different. What most thought would happen, did actually happen. The Raw chamber blew the SD one away, but to be honest, the SD one wasn’t that bad. And while I wouldn’t recommend doing it again, the WWE did alright at No Way Out.
If the rumors are true, and TNA really don’t care if Raven stays or goes, they are letting a very valuable resource go.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. Yeah they are but whatever. They also aren't really losing very much either. This really has no effect on TNA at all it sucks that Raven doesn't have a job any more though.
Rell: Fiction - Raven is one of the most knowledgeable guys to ever embrace the ring, the problem is, he lacks interest. He would've most likely made a phenomenal booker had he chose to become one, the fact remains, he's just not interested.
Montana: Fact. I like the wording on this quote. Very Resource, YES. Raven didn't have that much left to offer on the wrestling side of things, BUT he had ALOT to offer backstage, to not only help the wrestlers, but also with their storylines. Raven is said to be a wrestling genius. Last time i checked, geniuses don't grow on tree, so losing Raven could be something they may regret later on down the road.
Soulpower: Fact HELL YES!:You know this (Kaedon) and pretty much everyone else knows this. Even if he's not a wrestler, he can help out some of the younger guys and teach them the finer points of working a match.
Kaedon: Fact- I couldn’t say FACT any louder to this if I had Jimmy Hart with a line of megaphones. Raven is, without a doubt, one of the smartest guys to ever lace a pair of boots. He knows psychology, he knows pacing, he knows promoting, he knows character development, he knows booking, he knows how to get heat, he knows how to get sympathy, he knows how to write storylines, he knows how to pretty much do everything. And for TNA to let him go, man are they fucking stupid. I seriously don’t have any idea what the fuck they are thinking. At least keep him on as a road agent. But whatever, he is now training the next generation of wrestlers, part of the future of the business is in good hands.
The WWE dropped the ball in the Rumble by allowing two WWE legends to have the stage instead of giving that time and those spots to younger wrestlers who could use the experience.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. Hey, at least it wasn't Drew Carey. Seriously, they didn't do very much and it was amusing for the brief time they were on and it didn't hurt anything.
Rell: Fiction - Again, this is a matter of the General public being satisfied. I hate to keep reiterating this but the WWE isn't out to please internet fans. WWE is out to please the general public. If they're satisfied, mission accomplished.
Montana: Fiction. Thats what the rumble is all about. Shocking returns, Legends, stuff like that. Stuff you dont see everyday. I really enjoyed it, and the fans in MSG did too. Legend vs Current star just wouldnt have the same feeling.
Soulpower: Fact: Was it a "mark out" moment? Yes. But who's going to remember this in a couple of years. Add in the fact that Snuka looked like he was going to disintegrate in front of our eyes, and the fact Piper resembled a killer whale, and its easy to admit that this was a dumb move.... But who cares about future stars? Cena is back, and he can't possible get hurt again >_>
Kaedon: Fiction- Anyone who really thinks this hurt the Rumble in any way, shape, or form is pretty dumb, imo. Instead of a 3 minute appearance from Piper and Snuka, which got a huge reaction, we put in….Mike Knox, the uninjured Highlander, Balls Mahoney? It’s not like they kept out some big star, they kept out 2 jobbers who would have been eliminated anyway and gotten WAY LESS of a reaction. SP says people wont remember this, and while he might be right, they would remember Trevor Murdoch and The Prince Of Punk even less.
The credibility of the ECW title was compromised when the WWE had Chavo Guerrero compete in the Royal Rumble.
Monkeystyle: FACT. Since the other champions weren't in it, yes. I can see the champs being in the Rumble at this point to be honest with you. When it was just one title obviously not. But why wouldn't Edge want to enter the Rumble, win and then face say Randy Orton for his title at WM so he could possibly wind up with two world titles. That makes sense to me. But since Chavo was the only champion that was in it, it definetly undermined the ECW title. It was like saying "Hey, I'd rather hold either of those titles than this piece of garbage.
Rell: Fiction - Everyone knows the ECW title is viewed as "secondary". Its not a secret. Chavo competing during the rumble only reiterated what is already common knowledge imo.
Montana: Fiction. I thought the announcers could have covered this up better. Saying something along the lines, like he won his shot in the rumble, before he won the belt. Or Even say the winner of the rumble could go on to face Chavo at WM. So i think it was not only a mistake to have him in, but also the announcers who were telling the story.
Soulpower: Fiction: In not only compromised the credibility of the title, it compromised the credibility of the ECW brand. It was basically WWE's way of saying. WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE ECW BRAND!
Kaedon: Fact- I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. CM Punk just came off a lengthy title reign, lost it on a TV show, and now he is in the Rumble? Vince might as well have pulled a Brian Pillman and come out and piss in the middle of the ECW ring because that’s pretty much what he said. I mean I know all things are sposed to go through him, so either he made a huge mistake or someone got FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRED.

No Way Out Review
Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk for the ECW Title
The first of 3 title matches on the night kicks off the PPV. We get a nice brisk back and forth to start off the match followed by a hurricanrana and tornado DDT. Punk tries to pay tribute to Eddie Guerrero with his version of the 3 amigo’s and the crowd just shit all over it, for reasons I can not understand. The story in this match is a heel that just wont go away and a face who is getting really pissed off that he can’t get the win. Punk tried everything he could, even a top rope frankensteiner that misses. Chavo hits the froggy splash and that’s all she wrote. This wasn’t what I would call a great match, but it was definitely entertaining, and it told a story that we don’t see too often.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero
Match Rating: ***
Batista vs. Undertaker vs. Finlay vs. The Great Khali vs. Big Daddy V vs. MVP in Smackdown’s Elimination Chamber Match
The SD Chamber was the 2nd match of the night. I guess that shows us what Vince thinks of the brand. Then again, I guess you cant have both of the Chamber Matches too close together but gets get onto the match. Much to my surprise, and I bet a lot of other peoples’, The Undertaker and Batista start off the match. I honestly didn’t see that coming because they both aren’t known for having lots of stamina and this is a brutal match to stay in for so long, because lets face it, these guys were the only ones who had a chance in hell of winning. The first 5 min before number 3 came in seemed to kind of go forever, but for the aforementioned reasons I didn’t think these two would start, I think it’s kind of forgivable. The next guy in the chamber is Big Daddy V who takes advantage of two downed opponents. He even threw Undertaker out the door of the chamber in a nice spot that looked like it wasn’t supposed to happen, but more than likely, probably was. V continues to work over both of the faces until Batista gets a surge of energy and hits a spine buster on the fat fuck. Undertaker then drops V with a vicious DDT on the steel grate and that is it for the fat man, THANK GOD!
Khali comes in next. He does a lot of the same of what V did, only it didn’t take as long. He hit his chop, he hit his finisher, but it was all for naught as he ended up tapping to Lance Storm’s new favorite submission hold.
The man who loves to fight enters next and shows he loves to do what he does as he starts beating the shit out of Batista and Taker. With the smaller, WAY MORE AGILE wrestler in the ring, the pace takes a much needed boost as Finlay works over both guys and gets a close 2 count with his ever dangerous Celtic Cross on Taker.
Batista then squares off with Finlay close to the time MVP makes his appearance. This makes for a nice little comedy spot where Taker is standing outside of MVPs pod waiting for him to exit and MVP tries to hold it closed. Good stuff. That Undertaker kid, he’s going places. Much like everyone else, MVP gets some offense in on everyone, even a few close 2 counts. Taker then scares the shit out of him enough to make MVP climb a pod to try and get away. This proves to be fatal as MVP takes a modified choke slam back into the ring for an elimination. Shortly after this, my homeboy from Milwaukee, Hornswaggle, makes an appearance handing Finlay the shalayleigh. The crowd gets hot for it but Finlay takes a chokeslam to the steel and gets eliminated.
So we are back to who we started with and the crowd is really loving Taker as Batista gets boo’d and even gets the BOO, YAY, BOO, YAY, punches going with Taker. So that makes Rey, Jeff Hardy, and now Batista who are “no longer over†with the crowd. Batista gets his bomb in and almost wins the match, which would have killed more people that night in Vegans than the tainted cooch that is no doubt all over town. Taker also cant put away Batista with a last ride, so we are at a stale mate. Batista then lawn darts Taker into the chamber. He goes to the well again but Taker somehow reverses off of that, gets them back into the ring, and hits the Tombstone for the win. What a finish to what I thought was going to be just a shitty fucking match. Boy was I wrong.
Winner: The Undertaker
Match Rating: ***3/4
Ken Kennedy vs. Ric Flair in a Career Ending Match
Kennedy looks like some other bleach blond guy I used to see wrestle back in the day, mocking his older opponent. Whatever happened to that guy? Flair doesn’t really get much offense in before Kennedy starts working over his knee like a good heel should. Kennedy applies a one legged Boston Crab and even busts out the rarely ever seen ring post/figure 4. The crowd is really getting into it now because Flair is selling like, well, Flair and they are afraid this is it for the old man. Kenendy gets some near falls but the Flair is tougher than a 2 dollar steak. Flair finally gets an opening as Kennedy makes one mistake and exposes his knee for Flair to target. A few chop blocks and a figure 4 from the master of it, and Kennedy taps out.
Winner: Ric Flair
Match Rating: ***
Edge vs. Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Title
Rey’s bicep looks really fucking gross. I mean really, I have no idea how he went out there and had a match. Then again, look who we works for, Vince McMahon tried to walk on two blown quads, you’d better not complain about being hurt to Vince McMahon. Edge, of course, targets the arm and Rey tries to get away on the outside. Rey makes Edge miss on the outside and takes the advantage. Back in the ring, Rey hits a one armed moonsault and a one armed Tornado DDD to almost gets the win. Rey hits the 619 but cant put Edge away. Rey goes for a springboard something and gets speared from Edge to end the match. That was a very short match, but I mean I guess you couldn’t really expect it to be much better than it was. But I still cant rate it too high since it was barely 5 minutes long.
Winner: Edge
Match Rating: **1/2
Big Show Segment
As soon as Edge leaves and Rey is being helped out, The Big Show makes his surprising return. This was another genuine surprise for the night. I’m glad it wasn’t spoiled by the internet so the WWE once again fucks the smarks over, good for them. Show comes out all smiles and shows off how much weight he has lost. And he really did lose a ton and looks great. The crowd loves it till he thinks Rey is taking away from the attention he should be getting and proceeds to beat the shit out of him. Show then looks at Rey Rey’s friend in the front row, Floyd Mayweather, daring him to come do something Floyd jumps the rail and then gets in Shows face. Big Show just looks down and laughs at him, playing the cool cocky giant we all know he is so good at playing. He then toys with Mayweather and gets down on one knee to make it even. Floyed then starts swinging and hits at least 3 full punches on Shows face that looked like they really fucking hurt. The crowd had no idea what to think and neither did anyone of the 50 or so people around me. All they knew was, they wanted to see what was going to happen next. After the punches, Mayweather and his crew get the fuck out of the way of the charging giant and who is the man to stop Big Show, none other than Shane McMahon.
Segment Rating: ****
Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the WWE Title
Cena in a match, well we have to get dueling chants right? Cena get’s the upper hand first and gets a few two counts to no avail. Orton decides he’d had enough of that bullshit and starts beating on Cena’s newly repaired pec but then also works over the head of Cena as well. Cena tries to get back into it and hits his patented top rope leg drop but that’s not enough to get Orton. Cena tries to end it with an F-U but Orton then REALLY targets Cena’s pec. The pace slows down a LOT here as Orton just proceeds to stop the crap out of Cena, literally, for a good 5 minutes. It’s really kinda brutal. Cena then gets another comeback and hits his sequence of moves but the action spills out of the ring. The two bawl outside and tease the crowd with a double count out but both get back in at 9. Haha, fuck you people who THOUGHT you knew what was gonna happen. “Oh so this is how they are gonna get to the triple threat at Mania.†Shortly after Orton tries and RKO but Cena blocks it and locks in the STFU. Orton gets to the ropes and then goes to the outside. Orton starts saying he hurt his knee. The ref and Cena both come out to see whats up. Orton even tells the ref COUNT ME OUT. The ref wont and when Cena gets in striking distance, Orton hits a nasty RKO. Orton smiles saying “haha I just fucked Cena†who stays outside till 9.9999999999999999999999999999999999999 but gets back in. Orton is fucking pissed and then slaps the ref causing a DQ. This sends pretty much everyone in the arena and around me into a frenzy. I wanted to beat Orton’s bitch ass after I saw that and that is the sign of a good worker having a good match.
Winner: John Cena
Match Rating: ****
HHH vs. HBK vs. Y2J vs. JBL vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga in the Raw Elimination Chamber Match
We start off with another WM rematch as Jericho and HBK start off. Totally unlike the beginning of the SD Chamber, this is fast and furious with a lot of holds, reversals and just great wrestling. The fans aren’t buying it though, which I find funny since they were booing John Cena and chanting “You cant wrestle†at The Great Khali, but whatever. HBK and Y2J both go for a cross body and HBK busts his nose wide open. Umaga comes in and hits a fucking sweet ass looking DOUBLE Samoan drop on Jericho and HBK. After that, he then proceeds to just dominate both of his opponents for the whole period, pretty much. Before JBL comes in, the faces lock in a crossface/walls combo that looked fucking awesome but JBL makes the save. We get a semi tag team match for the next 5 minutes as the faces take on the heels.
HHH comes in 5th and picks up the action a notch. Of the people in this match, HHH is one of the last guys Id expect to work so fast. We get a Code Breaker, some Sweet Chin Music, and a pedigree to eliminate JBL. JBL cant believe he has been eliminated first so before he goes to the back, he comes back in and beats the shit out of everyone with a steel chair.
Jeff Hardy comes in and everyone is just barely getting up. The Rainbow Haired Warrior cleans house and almost misses a whisper in the wind on DX. Outside on the steel, Umaga hits his samoan butt splash on Jericho’s head, breaking the pod. Just brutal. DX and Jeff ban together to get rid of Umaga and hit sweet chin music and a pedigree. THEN Hardy does a swanton off the top of a pod and that’s it for Umaga. A little more offense and Jericho is taken out by his mentor and then a Twist Of Fate and a Pedigree take out HBK. It’s Hardy vs. H, who is going to Mania? We get a brawl in and out of the ring until Jeff Hardy hits a DDT on the steel, bloodying HHH. Jeff then goes for it all with a Swanton but MISSES and gets hit with a pedigree, and that’s it. NO ITS NOT! No one, including HHH can believe Hardy kicked out. Jeff fights back into it and goes for a TOF but misses and this time gets drilled with a pedigree on a steel chair, and that’s it. This was damn near a perfect match. No one looked weak, the pace was always fast, there were brutal spots, and most importantly, it told a story.
Winner: HHH
Match Rating: ****3/4
NWO was a really good PPV, imo. I think it was another really strong showing and if the WWE can keep this up, 2008 is gonna be great.

Week One: The Day After Mania
Kenny Dykstra comes out sans Victoria and says it’s time for a change. SD has been the same for 2 years. Undertaker and Edge, Edge and Undertaker, Undertaker and Edge. He says it’s time for the monotony to stop. The Undertaker comes out to the ring but doesn’t say a word. Dykstra bows up to him and say’s the Deadman’s time has passed. It’s time for him to step aside for a new generation of wrestlers with a new WWE Attitude. Taker grabs Kenny’s throat when 4 other guys in red and black matching tights hit the ring and attack Taker. Taker tries to fight back, but the numbers are just too much. Kenny grabs the WHC belt and holds it over his head. Kenny then introduces his new/old friends, the Suicide Squad!
Week 2:
Vickie announces a match between Undertaker and all 5 members of the Suicide Squad, and if the SS win, Kenny will get a shot at the WHC.
Before the match starts, Vickie says its no DQ. After the bell rings and all 5 men surround taker, Kane’s pyro blows and the big red machine makes his way to the ring to try and even the odds. At the end of the match Kane and Undertaker are brawling with everyone on the outside and the ref is counting and Kenny beats the 10 count back in and wins the match. Kenny is now the number one contender to the WHC. The SS steal the WHC belt and get out of there.
Week 3:
Kenny and the SS hold a “Purging Ceremony†in the ring. In the ring is a solid stone table. Kenny comes out with the WHC and the SS. He says tonight will be the first step in the rebirting of the WHC. He says this belt is a vestige of what is old, obsolete, and past it’s prime. Tonight, he is going to force everyone to realize that what’s old is dead and it’s a new generation of wrestlers that is taking over in the WWE. He places the WHC on the stone table and picks up a sledgehammer. He raises it and……the lights go out. When they come back on, everyone is KOd all over the ring and Taker is choking out Kenny with the stone table edge across his throat. Taker makes him pass out, takes his belt, and leaves.
Week 4:
Vickie says she is sick of all of the outside interference from everyone to when Taker takes on Kenny Dykstra, it will be in a Steel Cage. Kenny gets pissed but Vickie says if he doesn’t like it, he can forfeit his title shot. Kenny agrees.
In the main event, Undertaker/Kane/Matt Hardy take on Kenny/MVP/The Great Khali, and Kenny cracks Taker over the head with a steel chair causing a DQ.
PPV
Before Taker comes out to the ring, Kane comes out and stands facing the entrance way. Taker comes out and he steps aside. The SS come out with Kenny and he scares away everyone but Kenny. Kane stands stoically at ringside all match keeping all interference away.
Later in the match, Kenny is in a dragon sleeper and almost is out but somehow makes a comeback. 3 of the SS come out and test Kane but the 4th comes from the crowd and jumps off the cage onto Taker with a moonsault. Then Kenny goes to the top of the cage and hits his leg drop and gets the 1, 2, 2.999999999999999999999999999999999999. But cant put Taker away. Taker throws SS member 4 into the door and it opens as he flies out. Kenny sees this and tries to get away and almost gets out but Taker grabs him, gives him a chokeslam and a tombstone and that’s it.
Phew well that’s it for the No Smark Zone this week. Next time I will have some of my fav WM moments, some more fantasy booking, and something else I think of between now and when I write again.

This time for FF we have everyone’s favorite pot smoking primate Monkeystyle, Tito Santana’s illegitimate love child, Soulpower, the man who will make you sleep with the fishes, (Tony) Montana, and the whitest black man since Uncle Tom, Rell. And then there’s some other fuck too, his opinions always suck >_>.
The WWE started the year off right with a great showing at the Royal Rumble.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. If by started off right you mean pissed off a bunch of their fans, then sure. I'm no fan of John Cena, but whatever he's there and is likely going to be for a while, and I have accepted that fact. That however still doesn't change the fact that he was entirely the wrong choice to win the Rumble. Shock win or not. The WWE would've been much better served keeping Cena out until at least after WM (SummerSlam would've been better) and letting the current storylines run without him.
Rell: Fact - Due to a number of resources, the Shock factor in wrestling has been non-existing lately. The fact John Cena's return was kept a secret, speaks volumes on what wrestling could, and should be. The fact that the WWE was able to surprise general and internet fans alike, is definitely is a positive. Hopefully, for the sake of the fans, The E will be able to put together more shows at this level.
Montana: Fact. The Royal Rumble PPV was another solid showing. The matches were solid and the Royal Rumble match told a story and delivered. Edge vs Rey Mysterio was a very under rated matchup. Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy had a lot of hype around it. The Royal Rumble match was booked close to perfectly with Taker and HBK kicking it off. Then it came down to a point where HHH was the only worthy contender to win, before Cena came out. Big shocker at the end. All wwe ppv's should follow this formula.
Soulpower: Fiction: Though I'll admit that Cena's return was great.. The rest of the show didn't feel that way. After all the hype, Orton vs Jeff was a bit underwhelming and the anti-climatic finish didn't help either. I expect a great show when its one of the big four PPV's, this one was simply a good show.
Kaedon: Fact- No match was below 3 stars, the crowd was fucking hot, and the Rumble itself was one of the top 3 of all time. There were surprises, like HBK and Taker starting off and John Cena coming back, there were guys, like Batista, showing that they are more than just a body and going for 30+ minutes, the legends returned, and there was legitimate wonder as to who would win when it came down to the last 2. Overall the PPV will probably be looked on as one of the best of the year and it was indeed a great way for the WWE to start off 2008.
If TNA get back to their original formula of more action and less promos, it will help them to overcome the WWE in the ratings.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. its all advertising. I read somewhere the other day, I can't remember where but it was credible or I wouldn't have bothered remembering it. Anyway it turns out that Canada will no longer be showing the RoH ppvs due to low purchases. Were talking low hundreds purchases here. RoH in my opinion has probably the best wrestling in North America, but because there was practically zero advertising no one was going to buy it. TNA needs to do something drastic like buy seats in the first few rows by ringside on the camera side and attract some attention because what they're doing right nwo is not working.
Rell: Fiction - Improving the product will not necessarily help ratings. In fact, it wouldn't help at all. Unless Jesus Christ grants TNA a miracle, and they're able to sign a mega-star ie The Rock, Austin, etc. You can expect the same results which include mediocre ratings.
Montana: Fiction. Its going to take a lot for TNA to over come the wwe. Personally i can't see TNA defeated wwe, unless they go head to head, and create a huge buzz with another BIG signing. Even then, way too many things need to go in tna's favor to be considered competition.
Soulpower: Fact: They can build characters and feuds without needing to go TO THE BACK every 2 minutes for some wacky (often crappy) backstage segment. TNA claims that "We are Wrestling". Maybe they should let their talent do that, wrestle. If emulating WWE isn't getting anywhere, why not try a different approach?
Kaedon: Fiction- TNA’s old model wasn’t appealing to a mass crowd so they changed. It was an alternative, but so what, different doesn’t mean better. WCW was pretty much the WWE with older talent. On a base level they were the same because that’s what the fans were buying. Wrestling fans today have had ample chance to get a taste of TNA’s older style and they didn’t give a shit.
The surprise departure of Bobby Lashley will not really affect the WWE as they have many other stars to build around.
Monkeystyle: FACT. Bobby who? He won't be missed at all.
Rell: Fact - Bobby Lashley is not a draw. Sure, due to his successful run in "ECW" he's a name, but he isn't isn't a staple. WWE has more than enough star-power to remain elite. Guys like MVP, Kofi, and CM Punk are huge bright-spots for the future. All in all, Chock Lesnar's departure will have no affect realistically.
Montana: Fact. Bobby Lashley who?? In my opinion he didnt really have a lot to offer. He just wasn't a guy who a instant sucess. He was forced down our throats and made to look like a superhero.
Soulpower: Fact: In the eyes of WWE, Lashley was a star. But even after he took part in the Vince-Trump storyline, the fans weren't exactly going nuts over the man. In a couple of years we will only remember Lashley as the dude that says bathurd instead of bastard.
Kaedon: Fiction- This is another case of a guy getting pushed too fast. Sure the fans liked him, but if history has taught us anything it’s that stars that take their time to build and grow over time, are the ones who last. Part of the reason is, you find out who is gonna suck their scrotums in and go home because they cant hang with the travel schedule. But the fact remains, there are tons of guys who will be able to take his place.
The WWE are cheapening the gimmick of the Elimination Chamber by having two of them on the same card and basically setting one of them up to fail.
Monkeystyle:. I dunno I'm reserving judgement on this one until I see them. I don't have a problem with two EC's in one night, but you're right it will be very easy for one to eclipse the other. PUSH.
Rell: Fiction - The only people who will have a problem with this are the "internet fans". WWE isn't out to please internet fans. WWE is out to please general fans. The general fans aren't complaining, if anything they're thrilled, so I see no problem.
Montana: Fact. Its almost like a annual tradition to have ONE. not TWO. They should be making it seem like a deadly structure rather than rushing two big time matches. It think they will end up being good, just short. But i dont see the reason to over shadow Wrestlemania.
Soulpower: Fact: Not only are they cheapening the gimmick, but after seeing who will be the paricipants in the SD Chamber. I think the WWE is making the match look like crap.
Kaedon: Fact- I think it is wrong to have two of the same gimmick matches on the same PPV. I mean this is supposed to be a main event match. Add that to another chamber, three world title matches, and a retirement match, any one of those matches, on their face, could be a main event. Now, this question was posed to the other guys before the PPV and I am just answering now, so my answer will be different. What most thought would happen, did actually happen. The Raw chamber blew the SD one away, but to be honest, the SD one wasn’t that bad. And while I wouldn’t recommend doing it again, the WWE did alright at No Way Out.
If the rumors are true, and TNA really don’t care if Raven stays or goes, they are letting a very valuable resource go.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. Yeah they are but whatever. They also aren't really losing very much either. This really has no effect on TNA at all it sucks that Raven doesn't have a job any more though.
Rell: Fiction - Raven is one of the most knowledgeable guys to ever embrace the ring, the problem is, he lacks interest. He would've most likely made a phenomenal booker had he chose to become one, the fact remains, he's just not interested.
Montana: Fact. I like the wording on this quote. Very Resource, YES. Raven didn't have that much left to offer on the wrestling side of things, BUT he had ALOT to offer backstage, to not only help the wrestlers, but also with their storylines. Raven is said to be a wrestling genius. Last time i checked, geniuses don't grow on tree, so losing Raven could be something they may regret later on down the road.
Soulpower: Fact HELL YES!:You know this (Kaedon) and pretty much everyone else knows this. Even if he's not a wrestler, he can help out some of the younger guys and teach them the finer points of working a match.
Kaedon: Fact- I couldn’t say FACT any louder to this if I had Jimmy Hart with a line of megaphones. Raven is, without a doubt, one of the smartest guys to ever lace a pair of boots. He knows psychology, he knows pacing, he knows promoting, he knows character development, he knows booking, he knows how to get heat, he knows how to get sympathy, he knows how to write storylines, he knows how to pretty much do everything. And for TNA to let him go, man are they fucking stupid. I seriously don’t have any idea what the fuck they are thinking. At least keep him on as a road agent. But whatever, he is now training the next generation of wrestlers, part of the future of the business is in good hands.
The WWE dropped the ball in the Rumble by allowing two WWE legends to have the stage instead of giving that time and those spots to younger wrestlers who could use the experience.
Monkeystyle: FICTION. Hey, at least it wasn't Drew Carey. Seriously, they didn't do very much and it was amusing for the brief time they were on and it didn't hurt anything.
Rell: Fiction - Again, this is a matter of the General public being satisfied. I hate to keep reiterating this but the WWE isn't out to please internet fans. WWE is out to please the general public. If they're satisfied, mission accomplished.
Montana: Fiction. Thats what the rumble is all about. Shocking returns, Legends, stuff like that. Stuff you dont see everyday. I really enjoyed it, and the fans in MSG did too. Legend vs Current star just wouldnt have the same feeling.
Soulpower: Fact: Was it a "mark out" moment? Yes. But who's going to remember this in a couple of years. Add in the fact that Snuka looked like he was going to disintegrate in front of our eyes, and the fact Piper resembled a killer whale, and its easy to admit that this was a dumb move.... But who cares about future stars? Cena is back, and he can't possible get hurt again >_>
Kaedon: Fiction- Anyone who really thinks this hurt the Rumble in any way, shape, or form is pretty dumb, imo. Instead of a 3 minute appearance from Piper and Snuka, which got a huge reaction, we put in….Mike Knox, the uninjured Highlander, Balls Mahoney? It’s not like they kept out some big star, they kept out 2 jobbers who would have been eliminated anyway and gotten WAY LESS of a reaction. SP says people wont remember this, and while he might be right, they would remember Trevor Murdoch and The Prince Of Punk even less.
The credibility of the ECW title was compromised when the WWE had Chavo Guerrero compete in the Royal Rumble.
Monkeystyle: FACT. Since the other champions weren't in it, yes. I can see the champs being in the Rumble at this point to be honest with you. When it was just one title obviously not. But why wouldn't Edge want to enter the Rumble, win and then face say Randy Orton for his title at WM so he could possibly wind up with two world titles. That makes sense to me. But since Chavo was the only champion that was in it, it definetly undermined the ECW title. It was like saying "Hey, I'd rather hold either of those titles than this piece of garbage.
Rell: Fiction - Everyone knows the ECW title is viewed as "secondary". Its not a secret. Chavo competing during the rumble only reiterated what is already common knowledge imo.
Montana: Fiction. I thought the announcers could have covered this up better. Saying something along the lines, like he won his shot in the rumble, before he won the belt. Or Even say the winner of the rumble could go on to face Chavo at WM. So i think it was not only a mistake to have him in, but also the announcers who were telling the story.
Soulpower: Fiction: In not only compromised the credibility of the title, it compromised the credibility of the ECW brand. It was basically WWE's way of saying. WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE ECW BRAND!
Kaedon: Fact- I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. CM Punk just came off a lengthy title reign, lost it on a TV show, and now he is in the Rumble? Vince might as well have pulled a Brian Pillman and come out and piss in the middle of the ECW ring because that’s pretty much what he said. I mean I know all things are sposed to go through him, so either he made a huge mistake or someone got FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRED.

No Way Out Review
Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk for the ECW Title
The first of 3 title matches on the night kicks off the PPV. We get a nice brisk back and forth to start off the match followed by a hurricanrana and tornado DDT. Punk tries to pay tribute to Eddie Guerrero with his version of the 3 amigo’s and the crowd just shit all over it, for reasons I can not understand. The story in this match is a heel that just wont go away and a face who is getting really pissed off that he can’t get the win. Punk tried everything he could, even a top rope frankensteiner that misses. Chavo hits the froggy splash and that’s all she wrote. This wasn’t what I would call a great match, but it was definitely entertaining, and it told a story that we don’t see too often.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero
Match Rating: ***
Batista vs. Undertaker vs. Finlay vs. The Great Khali vs. Big Daddy V vs. MVP in Smackdown’s Elimination Chamber Match
The SD Chamber was the 2nd match of the night. I guess that shows us what Vince thinks of the brand. Then again, I guess you cant have both of the Chamber Matches too close together but gets get onto the match. Much to my surprise, and I bet a lot of other peoples’, The Undertaker and Batista start off the match. I honestly didn’t see that coming because they both aren’t known for having lots of stamina and this is a brutal match to stay in for so long, because lets face it, these guys were the only ones who had a chance in hell of winning. The first 5 min before number 3 came in seemed to kind of go forever, but for the aforementioned reasons I didn’t think these two would start, I think it’s kind of forgivable. The next guy in the chamber is Big Daddy V who takes advantage of two downed opponents. He even threw Undertaker out the door of the chamber in a nice spot that looked like it wasn’t supposed to happen, but more than likely, probably was. V continues to work over both of the faces until Batista gets a surge of energy and hits a spine buster on the fat fuck. Undertaker then drops V with a vicious DDT on the steel grate and that is it for the fat man, THANK GOD!
Khali comes in next. He does a lot of the same of what V did, only it didn’t take as long. He hit his chop, he hit his finisher, but it was all for naught as he ended up tapping to Lance Storm’s new favorite submission hold.
The man who loves to fight enters next and shows he loves to do what he does as he starts beating the shit out of Batista and Taker. With the smaller, WAY MORE AGILE wrestler in the ring, the pace takes a much needed boost as Finlay works over both guys and gets a close 2 count with his ever dangerous Celtic Cross on Taker.
Batista then squares off with Finlay close to the time MVP makes his appearance. This makes for a nice little comedy spot where Taker is standing outside of MVPs pod waiting for him to exit and MVP tries to hold it closed. Good stuff. That Undertaker kid, he’s going places. Much like everyone else, MVP gets some offense in on everyone, even a few close 2 counts. Taker then scares the shit out of him enough to make MVP climb a pod to try and get away. This proves to be fatal as MVP takes a modified choke slam back into the ring for an elimination. Shortly after this, my homeboy from Milwaukee, Hornswaggle, makes an appearance handing Finlay the shalayleigh. The crowd gets hot for it but Finlay takes a chokeslam to the steel and gets eliminated.
So we are back to who we started with and the crowd is really loving Taker as Batista gets boo’d and even gets the BOO, YAY, BOO, YAY, punches going with Taker. So that makes Rey, Jeff Hardy, and now Batista who are “no longer over†with the crowd. Batista gets his bomb in and almost wins the match, which would have killed more people that night in Vegans than the tainted cooch that is no doubt all over town. Taker also cant put away Batista with a last ride, so we are at a stale mate. Batista then lawn darts Taker into the chamber. He goes to the well again but Taker somehow reverses off of that, gets them back into the ring, and hits the Tombstone for the win. What a finish to what I thought was going to be just a shitty fucking match. Boy was I wrong.
Winner: The Undertaker
Match Rating: ***3/4
Ken Kennedy vs. Ric Flair in a Career Ending Match
Kennedy looks like some other bleach blond guy I used to see wrestle back in the day, mocking his older opponent. Whatever happened to that guy? Flair doesn’t really get much offense in before Kennedy starts working over his knee like a good heel should. Kennedy applies a one legged Boston Crab and even busts out the rarely ever seen ring post/figure 4. The crowd is really getting into it now because Flair is selling like, well, Flair and they are afraid this is it for the old man. Kenendy gets some near falls but the Flair is tougher than a 2 dollar steak. Flair finally gets an opening as Kennedy makes one mistake and exposes his knee for Flair to target. A few chop blocks and a figure 4 from the master of it, and Kennedy taps out.
Winner: Ric Flair
Match Rating: ***
Edge vs. Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Title
Rey’s bicep looks really fucking gross. I mean really, I have no idea how he went out there and had a match. Then again, look who we works for, Vince McMahon tried to walk on two blown quads, you’d better not complain about being hurt to Vince McMahon. Edge, of course, targets the arm and Rey tries to get away on the outside. Rey makes Edge miss on the outside and takes the advantage. Back in the ring, Rey hits a one armed moonsault and a one armed Tornado DDD to almost gets the win. Rey hits the 619 but cant put Edge away. Rey goes for a springboard something and gets speared from Edge to end the match. That was a very short match, but I mean I guess you couldn’t really expect it to be much better than it was. But I still cant rate it too high since it was barely 5 minutes long.
Winner: Edge
Match Rating: **1/2
Big Show Segment
As soon as Edge leaves and Rey is being helped out, The Big Show makes his surprising return. This was another genuine surprise for the night. I’m glad it wasn’t spoiled by the internet so the WWE once again fucks the smarks over, good for them. Show comes out all smiles and shows off how much weight he has lost. And he really did lose a ton and looks great. The crowd loves it till he thinks Rey is taking away from the attention he should be getting and proceeds to beat the shit out of him. Show then looks at Rey Rey’s friend in the front row, Floyd Mayweather, daring him to come do something Floyd jumps the rail and then gets in Shows face. Big Show just looks down and laughs at him, playing the cool cocky giant we all know he is so good at playing. He then toys with Mayweather and gets down on one knee to make it even. Floyed then starts swinging and hits at least 3 full punches on Shows face that looked like they really fucking hurt. The crowd had no idea what to think and neither did anyone of the 50 or so people around me. All they knew was, they wanted to see what was going to happen next. After the punches, Mayweather and his crew get the fuck out of the way of the charging giant and who is the man to stop Big Show, none other than Shane McMahon.
Segment Rating: ****
Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the WWE Title
Cena in a match, well we have to get dueling chants right? Cena get’s the upper hand first and gets a few two counts to no avail. Orton decides he’d had enough of that bullshit and starts beating on Cena’s newly repaired pec but then also works over the head of Cena as well. Cena tries to get back into it and hits his patented top rope leg drop but that’s not enough to get Orton. Cena tries to end it with an F-U but Orton then REALLY targets Cena’s pec. The pace slows down a LOT here as Orton just proceeds to stop the crap out of Cena, literally, for a good 5 minutes. It’s really kinda brutal. Cena then gets another comeback and hits his sequence of moves but the action spills out of the ring. The two bawl outside and tease the crowd with a double count out but both get back in at 9. Haha, fuck you people who THOUGHT you knew what was gonna happen. “Oh so this is how they are gonna get to the triple threat at Mania.†Shortly after Orton tries and RKO but Cena blocks it and locks in the STFU. Orton gets to the ropes and then goes to the outside. Orton starts saying he hurt his knee. The ref and Cena both come out to see whats up. Orton even tells the ref COUNT ME OUT. The ref wont and when Cena gets in striking distance, Orton hits a nasty RKO. Orton smiles saying “haha I just fucked Cena†who stays outside till 9.9999999999999999999999999999999999999 but gets back in. Orton is fucking pissed and then slaps the ref causing a DQ. This sends pretty much everyone in the arena and around me into a frenzy. I wanted to beat Orton’s bitch ass after I saw that and that is the sign of a good worker having a good match.
Winner: John Cena

HHH vs. HBK vs. Y2J vs. JBL vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga in the Raw Elimination Chamber Match
We start off with another WM rematch as Jericho and HBK start off. Totally unlike the beginning of the SD Chamber, this is fast and furious with a lot of holds, reversals and just great wrestling. The fans aren’t buying it though, which I find funny since they were booing John Cena and chanting “You cant wrestle†at The Great Khali, but whatever. HBK and Y2J both go for a cross body and HBK busts his nose wide open. Umaga comes in and hits a fucking sweet ass looking DOUBLE Samoan drop on Jericho and HBK. After that, he then proceeds to just dominate both of his opponents for the whole period, pretty much. Before JBL comes in, the faces lock in a crossface/walls combo that looked fucking awesome but JBL makes the save. We get a semi tag team match for the next 5 minutes as the faces take on the heels.
HHH comes in 5th and picks up the action a notch. Of the people in this match, HHH is one of the last guys Id expect to work so fast. We get a Code Breaker, some Sweet Chin Music, and a pedigree to eliminate JBL. JBL cant believe he has been eliminated first so before he goes to the back, he comes back in and beats the shit out of everyone with a steel chair.
Jeff Hardy comes in and everyone is just barely getting up. The Rainbow Haired Warrior cleans house and almost misses a whisper in the wind on DX. Outside on the steel, Umaga hits his samoan butt splash on Jericho’s head, breaking the pod. Just brutal. DX and Jeff ban together to get rid of Umaga and hit sweet chin music and a pedigree. THEN Hardy does a swanton off the top of a pod and that’s it for Umaga. A little more offense and Jericho is taken out by his mentor and then a Twist Of Fate and a Pedigree take out HBK. It’s Hardy vs. H, who is going to Mania? We get a brawl in and out of the ring until Jeff Hardy hits a DDT on the steel, bloodying HHH. Jeff then goes for it all with a Swanton but MISSES and gets hit with a pedigree, and that’s it. NO ITS NOT! No one, including HHH can believe Hardy kicked out. Jeff fights back into it and goes for a TOF but misses and this time gets drilled with a pedigree on a steel chair, and that’s it. This was damn near a perfect match. No one looked weak, the pace was always fast, there were brutal spots, and most importantly, it told a story.
Winner: HHH
Match Rating: ****3/4
NWO was a really good PPV, imo. I think it was another really strong showing and if the WWE can keep this up, 2008 is gonna be great.

Week One: The Day After Mania
Kenny Dykstra comes out sans Victoria and says it’s time for a change. SD has been the same for 2 years. Undertaker and Edge, Edge and Undertaker, Undertaker and Edge. He says it’s time for the monotony to stop. The Undertaker comes out to the ring but doesn’t say a word. Dykstra bows up to him and say’s the Deadman’s time has passed. It’s time for him to step aside for a new generation of wrestlers with a new WWE Attitude. Taker grabs Kenny’s throat when 4 other guys in red and black matching tights hit the ring and attack Taker. Taker tries to fight back, but the numbers are just too much. Kenny grabs the WHC belt and holds it over his head. Kenny then introduces his new/old friends, the Suicide Squad!
Week 2:
Vickie announces a match between Undertaker and all 5 members of the Suicide Squad, and if the SS win, Kenny will get a shot at the WHC.
Before the match starts, Vickie says its no DQ. After the bell rings and all 5 men surround taker, Kane’s pyro blows and the big red machine makes his way to the ring to try and even the odds. At the end of the match Kane and Undertaker are brawling with everyone on the outside and the ref is counting and Kenny beats the 10 count back in and wins the match. Kenny is now the number one contender to the WHC. The SS steal the WHC belt and get out of there.
Week 3:
Kenny and the SS hold a “Purging Ceremony†in the ring. In the ring is a solid stone table. Kenny comes out with the WHC and the SS. He says tonight will be the first step in the rebirting of the WHC. He says this belt is a vestige of what is old, obsolete, and past it’s prime. Tonight, he is going to force everyone to realize that what’s old is dead and it’s a new generation of wrestlers that is taking over in the WWE. He places the WHC on the stone table and picks up a sledgehammer. He raises it and……the lights go out. When they come back on, everyone is KOd all over the ring and Taker is choking out Kenny with the stone table edge across his throat. Taker makes him pass out, takes his belt, and leaves.
Week 4:
Vickie says she is sick of all of the outside interference from everyone to when Taker takes on Kenny Dykstra, it will be in a Steel Cage. Kenny gets pissed but Vickie says if he doesn’t like it, he can forfeit his title shot. Kenny agrees.
In the main event, Undertaker/Kane/Matt Hardy take on Kenny/MVP/The Great Khali, and Kenny cracks Taker over the head with a steel chair causing a DQ.
PPV
Before Taker comes out to the ring, Kane comes out and stands facing the entrance way. Taker comes out and he steps aside. The SS come out with Kenny and he scares away everyone but Kenny. Kane stands stoically at ringside all match keeping all interference away.
Later in the match, Kenny is in a dragon sleeper and almost is out but somehow makes a comeback. 3 of the SS come out and test Kane but the 4th comes from the crowd and jumps off the cage onto Taker with a moonsault. Then Kenny goes to the top of the cage and hits his leg drop and gets the 1, 2, 2.999999999999999999999999999999999999. But cant put Taker away. Taker throws SS member 4 into the door and it opens as he flies out. Kenny sees this and tries to get away and almost gets out but Taker grabs him, gives him a chokeslam and a tombstone and that’s it.
Phew well that’s it for the No Smark Zone this week. Next time I will have some of my fav WM moments, some more fantasy booking, and something else I think of between now and when I write again.
