Yeah, I definitely haven't seen most of the list, but Dune is visually so impressive and well-directed.

I’ve seen half the movies on the best picture list. I really hope Andrew Garfield wins best actor. I love will smith but Garfield’s performance was on another level.

in my personal opinion (no one has to agree with me lol) there’s some really out of touch decisions on this list. Tick tick boom not getting a best picture nomination is a fucking joke. Also, nominating Judi Dench over Catriana Balfe for Belfast is ridiculous. Dench’s performance was fine but Balfe literally carried that movie and easily deserved the nomination so that’s a head scratcher. Jesse Plemons getting a nomination for power of the dog is dumb as well. His performance was nothing special and I can’t believe they consider it one of the best performances of the year.

And on a side note I really wish spider man no way home got a best picture nomination. The academy continues to ignore superhero movies despite the overwhelming positive reception. No Way Home was literally the best reviewed movie of the year. I truly think it deserved the nomination but oh well.

Oscars: Eight Awards Won’t Be Telecast Live This Year (Exclusive)

Several of the 23 categories which were presented live on the air during last year’s 93rd Oscars telecast will not be presented live on the air during the 94th Oscars telecast on March 27, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

In a move that is already causing tension within the leadership of the Academy, the presentations and acceptance of eight awards — documentary short, film editing, makeup/hairstyling, original score, production design, animated short, live action short and sound — will take place inside the Dolby Theatre an hour before the live telecast commences, will be recorded and will then be edited into the subsequent live broadcast — a variation of a controversial approach that the Academy first adopted and then abandoned in 2018. (The Tony Awards employ a similar model.)

The Academy declined comment.

The move comes less than a year after the lowest-rated Oscars telecast ever provoked considerable consternation within the ranks of the Academy’s longtime broadcasting partner ABC, which owns the exclusive rights to air the ceremony through 2028, and the fees from which largely finance the operations of the Academy.

Most of the general public cares about only the six highest-profile Oscar categories — best picture, best director, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor and best supporting actress — if that. But the Academy has always felt pressure to present all of its competitive Oscars on the air in order to keep the peace within its own board of governors, which includes representatives of the Academy’s 17 branches, most of which have at least one award which honors people from the profession practiced by its members and wants them to be treated the same as actors, directors and producers.

The Academy announced in August 2018 that several awards would be presented off the air at the 91st Oscars, but a large industry backlash caused the organization to walk back the move.

This year’s Academy Awards is set with its star-studded first slate of presenters. Announced by show producers Will Packer and Shayla Cowan, the 94th Annual Academy Award will see several previous winners, nominees, and hosts take the stage to hand out the golden statues. Listed in the first slate is Kevin Costner, Zoë Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Rosie Perez, Chris Rock, and Yuh-Jung Youn. More presenters are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Kravitz, star of the upcoming film The Batman, is the only presenter on the list without previous attachments to the ceremony but has received multiple nominations in other award shows for her roles in projects like High Fidelity, X-Men: First Class, and The Road Within. Gaga and Costner each sit at the top with three nominations each, Gaga for her work in A Star is Born and Costner for 1991’s Dance with Wolves. Gaga left with an award for Best Original Song with Costner walked away with Best Picture and Best Director. Fearless actress Perez received a 1993 nomination for Best Supporting Actress, a category that Youn is currently sweeping across various ceremonies, including last year’s Oscars for her role in Minari. While Rock has no nominations relating to the Oscars, he did host the 88th Annual Academy Awards and is considered a fan-favorite.

The slate of presenters will join previously announced hosts Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall at the Dolby Theater in California as they celebrate last year’s greatest cinematic creations.

Out of the best picture nominees I’ve seen so far, I think Drive My Car should win. I did like Power of the Dog and Nightmare Alley a lot as well too, but Drive My Car is the best I’ve seen out of what I have seen.

TV Ratings: Oscars Ratings Rise by 60 Percent From Last Year’s Low

The 94th Academy Awards drew a bigger audience than they did in last year’s least watched Oscar ceremony ever. Sunday’s show, however, is still well below past years as both TV viewing and moviegoing have gone through radical changes recently.

ABC’s broadcast of the Oscars drew 15.36 million viewers and a 3.2 rating among adults 18-49, according to time zone adjusted fast national ratings from Nielsen (early, unadjusted figures had the show at 13.73 million viewers and a 2.9 in the key ad demographic). They don’t include out of home viewing — though that will be rolled into the final same-day numbers that will be out Tuesday morning — or streaming. Live telecasts typically (though not always) see their ratings adjust upward after those elements are factored in.

Still, the early figures put Sunday’s show well ahead of the final numbers from last year’s scaled-down ceremony, which had all-time lows of 10.4 million viewers and a 2.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The time zone adjusted figures show a 48 percent jump in total viewers and a 51 percent bump in adults 18-49 over last year’s finals, and gains of 56 percent in viewers and 68 percent in the demo over the similar numbers last year (9.85 million and 1.9).

The Oscars join several other awards shows in stopping steep ratings declines from the 2020-21 season — though none have reached anywhere near the heights of pre-pandemic viewing. The Emmys and SAG Awards both had sizable gains over their last outings, and the CMA Awards and American Music Awards (both on ABC) were either steady or slightly up over last year.

Despite the year to year improvements, though, Sunday’s Oscars will go down as the second least watched since Nielsen began tracking total viewers in the mid-1970s. Prior last year the audience had never fallen below 20 million viewers.

ABC’s telecast generated huge reaction on social media when Will Smith walked on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. That came about two thirds of the way through the 3 hour, 40 minute ceremony, by which time the audience had been with the show for some 2 1/2 hours.
