Two 16-year-old boys have been charged for a shooting that left a 1-year-old girl injured on a South Side sidewalk Tuesday morning.
Gary Moore and Fredrick Dean, both 16, have been charged as adults with two counts each of attempted murder and one count each of aggravated battery with a firearm, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
Both will appear for bond hearings on Thursday, she said.


The shooting happened about 8:10 a.m. Tuesday in the 8400 block of South Muskegon Avenue. The child was with her 14-year-old aunt and the family dog at 84th Street and Muskegon Avenue when two unknown males started firing at a man on a bike, according to police.
The aunt tried to shield the baby, who was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital and later transferred to Children's Memorial Hospital. Community activist Andrew Holmes said the child was in extremely critical condition.


Police on Wednesday called the child's condition "guarded."
The baby’s mother is a Chicago Public Schools senior, a neighbor said.
A neighbor said the shooting stemmed from a gang dispute. Several neighbors said shootings in the area have increased in the last two years and the sound of gunfire is not uncommon.
