Legendary luchador Super Muneco has passed away at 59 years old following a battle with health issues.

Muneco's death was confirmed by Lucha Libre AAA on Wednesday. CMLL also expressed its sorrow after Muneco's passing

Muneco had been hospitalized and was in serious condition due to what was reported to be a lung issue from COVID-19, though a report last week stated that Muneco was out of the hospital and recuperating. Muneco has also been battling diabetes.

Muneco wrestled using a clown gimmick and was part of Los Trios Fantasia with Super Raton & Super Pinocho. Muneco and the group were a popular act with children and were main event draws at one point.

In last week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that Muneco retained his mask in apuestas matches more than 100 times, which is believed to be the second most in Mexican wrestling history. Muneco never lost his mask.

Muneco started wrestling in 1982 using the name El Sanguinario Jr. His last match was in 2019.
