Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed that his promotion is going on as-scheduled for a January super-show that will feature Daniel Cormier, Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and maybe even a couple other champs. After cancelling a second straight show, Coker knows that several fighters have grown upset with the lack of cards put on by Strikeforce. He talked to MMAFighting.com about that and more recently.
Coker added that the plans are for Cormier, Rockhold and Melendez to all fight on one night, along with "Ronda Rousey and Nate Marquardt, as well." Rousey is the women's bantamweight champion, while Marquardt is the welterweight champ.
Strikeforce first cancelled a card in September that was to feature Melendez and Pat Healy. They cancelled a second event that was planned for November after no opponent for Cormier could be found. The former Olympian was scheduled to face Frank Mir, who pulled out with an injury.
This show better deliver, Strikeforce is so close to shutting down all together that this could be their last show if they can't pull off a spectacular event.
