Josh Barnett used his catch wrestling to the fullest Saturday as he dominated Brett Rogers en route to a second-round submission win at "Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum" in a Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament quarterfinal bout.

Barnett advances to face Sergei Kharitonov down the road in a semifinal bout.

Rogers open with a kick and Barnett pushes him into the cage. He gets a big slam that was slightly lessened by Rogers holding the top of the cage. Side control. Rogers scrambles briefly but can't get up but does get Barnett into half-guard but Barnett mounts. Rogers trying to do something but Barnett is solid on top of him. Rogers holding on and using a lot of energy. Under 90 seconds left. Barnett with some shots and Rogers pushes out of mount but Barnett is right back in it. Barnett, though, seems content to just let Rogers tire himself out and the horn sounds.

Barnett lands a shot and Rogers clinches inexplicably and Barnett uses a lateral drop and ends up in mount a mere 20 seconds into the round. Crowd booing Barnett as he again is inactive in mount. That turns around when Barnett locks in an arm-triangle choke from mount and Rogers taps.

The time of the stoppage was 1:17.

Barnett came into this fight the winner of his last six fights while Rogers came in as the loser of 2-of-3, but he was coming off a win over Ruben Villareal in Canada.
