Beyond pumped for this card. Show takes place Saturday May, 19th. Obviously there's more pieces of the card that need to be announced, but thought I'd get this thread up for the show. Really solid card, looking forward to this. Also going to be interesting to see who Gil ends up defending his title against, hopefully it's a UFC guy. Worst case scenario it's Josh Thomson.

YES x 3

Pretty sure Woodley is their Welter champ, so means NATE THE GREAT is gonna win a title on his first SF appearance.

Yeah Woodley is the champion, it's going to be awesome seeing Nate with championship gold.

Edit: The title is vacated right now, but i do believe the Nate/Tyron fight is for the championship regardless.

Gilbert Melendez has been targeted for the upcoming Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier show for several weeks now. And, it seems as if "El Nino" has his opponent, as MMAJunkie.com is confirming Melendez will face Josh Thomson for the Strikeforce lightweight title.

Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier is set for May 19 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The main card, which will be highlighted by Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier in the finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, will be televised by Showtime.

Melendez (22-2) and Thomson (19-4) have split their two previous meetings. Thomson claimed the Strikeforce 155-pound title back in 2008, while Melendez took it back over a year later.

Was really kind of hoping for somebody else, but i guess it's alright. Still getting to see Melendez fight is good enough for me, not too picky on the opponent as i think Gil is going to get the win regardless.

Not a bad thing though, just disappointing for Gil as he can't get any decent competition to come his way.

Dana keeps promising, but nothing is ever drawn up.

Good card for this show. Will be happy when the heavyweight tournament is finally over because it has gone on for a very long time. Hoping that Josh Barnett wins so that Dana White is basically forced to bring him back into UFC. I expect both guys to move across to UFC whatever the result.

Melendez just needs to keep winning and hopefully Dana White will send over some tough competition for him. Good to see Marquardt back in top competition and I expect him to win that vacated title.

Dana keeps saying he's going to send guys over, but so far he hasn't. Think he's just waiting for Gil's contract with SF to come to an end so he can swoop him up.

He is keeping guys in strikeforce to keep it relevant. No problem with that. Anyways I heard Nate vs Tyron might not happen here.

Also Gilbert vs Thomson 3? I like the sound of that. A good rubber match. Now if they only promoted Strikeforce.

Yeah, its the best kept secret in MMA.

Every single SF event I've watched I've really enjoyed (apart from Overeem v Werdum which was an absolute joke)

I'm hoping even though it likely wont happen but i really wish UFC would promote the fuck out of this show because it's going to be such a good card.

I mean hell, on the Strikeforce mats and stuff they have the UFC logo everywhere  a nice plug for this particular Strikeforce show during a UFC event would be cool.

Main Card
Heavyweight Grand Prix Final Bout: Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier
Lightweight Championship Bout: Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson
Weltwerweight Championship Bout: Nate Marquardt vs. Tyron Woodley
Light Heavyweight Bout: Rafael Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle

Marquardt-Woodley hasn't been confirmed yet i guess, i thought it was but it's still likely to be added to this card in the next few weeks leading up to this show. Regardless though, it'll be a quality card.
