Karl Morley, charged with heinous battery for allegedly throwing a caustic substance at his stepson.

A 48-year-old West Englewood man has been arrested and charged with heinous battery for throwing a caustic substance at his stepson, resulting in burns to his face, neck and mouth.
Karl Morley, of the 1500 block of W. 72nd St., was accompanied by high-profile attorney Joel Brodsky when he turned himself in Saturday to the Wentworth Area Detective Division.
On June 6, the stepson, Swan Lockhart, 22, received second- and third-degree burns after Morley allegedly doused him with an unknown substance in a whiskey bottle, according to a police report.

Lockhart identified Morley as the person who threw the caustic liquid at him.
Lockhart also reported that on May 24 Morley stabbed him multiple times in the head with a screwdriver, causing lacerations and scratches to his head, face and neck, police said.
In a Sunday court appearance before Judge Israel Desierto, Morley’s bond was set at $75,000.
According to Brodsky, Lockhart was recently released from jail after serving time for a carjacking.

“Self-defense should not be excluded here,â€￾ Brodsky said after the bond hearing.
Brodsky also is former Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson’s attorney.
Morley, who has been employed by Fed-Ex for 11 years, has no previous criminal background. His next court appearance is June 17.
