A heavyweight clash between Stefan Struve (24-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Stipe Miocic (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) has been tapped the headliner for UFC on FUEL TV 5.
MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) today confirmed verbal agreements are in for the card's main event, which was first reported by ESPN's Gareth Davies and takes place Sept. 29 at Capital FM Arena, a 10,000-seat venue in Nottingham, England.
As MMAjunkie.com first reported, the event's main card airs on FUEL TV with prelims on Facebook.
The UFC recently announced the card, which also is dubbed "UFC: Nottingham." It marks the UFC's first trip to the city.
Both Herman and Miocic headline a UFC card for the first time.
Despite being just 24, the 6-foot-11 Struve has racked up 11 UFC appearances, which include eight victories, three "Submission of the Night" bonuses, and a current three-fight win streak. Most recently, the Dutch fighter tapped out Lavar Johnson in just 65 seconds at UFC 146. He's now 5-1 over his past six fights, which also include stoppage wins over Dave Herman and Pat Barry.
Miocic, meanwhile, recently kept his perfect record intact and picked up his third consecutive UFC win with a second-round TKO of Strikeforce import Shane Del Rosario at UFC 146. Prior to that, the Ohio-based fighter and former collegiate wrestler and baseball player earned a decision victory over Joey Beltran and a knockout win over Phil De Fries. The 29-year-old is just a little more than two years into his pro career.
I like it. Probably still not the main event that the U.K. Fans want though. I love what Stipe has been doing in the division, Struve has looked quit impressive himself.
