Troopers with the Indiana State Police found a mini-van that was probably getting very poor gas mileage late Wednesday morning on I-70 eastbound when it was stopped for a traffic violation.
While speaking with the driver, Edgar Cornejo, 38, of McAllen, the ISP trooper observed indicators consistent with criminal activity. Another ISP trooper and his K-9 partner were called to the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed 80 packages of alleged marijuana submerged inside the gasoline tank with the gasoline. The 75 pounds of packaged marijuana has an approximate street value of $75,000 dollars. Troopers said the load of alleged marijuana was destined for Toledo, Ohio
Cornejo was arrested and transported to the Marion County Processing center without incident. Cornejo is being charged with Dealing in Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana, both Class C Felonies. "Criminals use cars to commit crimes," stated Sergeant Todd Wix. "By paying close attention during everyday traffic stops Trooper Smith has removed a person using his vehicle to transport drugs across Indiana highways."
