Starting your own Wrestling Promotion?

Me and a buddy of mine are planning on making getting our own Fed together within the next 2-3 years. My question is... where do we start? I do realize we need a ring (which costs around 4,000-5,000 Dollars) Cameras, Wrestlers, and other stuff. Does anyone have any tips at all? How do I contact wrestlers, how do I find them is what im coming at. Money isn't the issue at all, it's setting it up all together. I do realize i'll need an arena which shouldn't be hard with all these open Gyms out here in Phoenix. Does anyone have any tips to help me to success? I've got some other buddies at my school that would be able to help be a ref, Booker, and Security Guard (If we need one). And advertising isn't too much of a issue either seeing as I have alot of people to help me with that.

I would advise you to look up a local wrestling school or possibly some in Texas and California (if you're serious) and finding a bunch of students there and give them tryouts and if you like them sign them up. Hope that helps.

Hmm, ambitious.

Well, I know next to nothing about the wrestling business, but it coouldn't hurt to go to a gym and find some fucking huge guys and ask if they'd be interesting. It never hurts to have a monster or two. Maybe check if their's any wrestling schools/trainers in your area and check them out. Putting an ad in the paper for wrestlers couldn't hurt.

As for finding workers, I think you could try to find workers on the internet, try to contact them through an offical website and try to see what their prices are.

Just a thought, Myspace or Facebook could be a go. Plenty of musicians have them, there might be wrestlers taking bookings or something.

You aren't going to need all of those things right off the bat. Ring, Workers, Maitenance and Barricades are pretty much all you need. But security wouldn't hurt, you don't want drunken yobbos climbing into your ring mid-match. Camera isn't necessary at first, although it coould help to promote the fed, putting videos up on YouTube and whatnot. Writers wouldn't be needed for a while.

yea I just want to put a thing or two - you won't need writters unless you have a full crowd like a full gymnasium at first get some of your matches on video put them on you tube and then just slowly slowly people will watch it at first just book one or two people against each other for a few minutes and then thats it give people an hour or so and then build up on it. You won't need promo's and storylines until your bigger in the fan base save that sort of money for commentators adn stuff for later. Let it grow slowly otherwise you will end up dying out early ie ECW Heyman used up all his money in 2000 / 2001 and all he had left was Sabu and Dreamer and RVD and a few others and he didn't even have the money to pay them weekly checks they did it because they loved to wrestle. You don't want that.

Well thanks for the help so far guys. I don't plan on opening it up until after college, but I will be getting the ring, belt(s), Barricades, Security Guard, Cameras, and all the other crap I need within the next couple of years.

go to local high schools (mainly seniors) and watch their wrestling meets or even other sports. if someone interests you and they dont plan on playing anything in college, you could go up to them and ask them if they were interested. or you could walk around colleges and if you see anyone who interests you you could ask them too. you could just tell them that they will get paid and all college students need money. i do know that if they are playing a sport that they cant wrestle, even during the offseason.

LOL thats me guys :grin:. Just kidding, I'd rather go to ROH, and actually have some credibilty jk.. Anyways, I'd say you go to college, and take entraupaneurship confused: on spelling there) courses, and I'm positive that should help you out. For wrestlers, get some friends whom are pretty well built, or have guts to do crazy shit. Also, go to a gymnasium, and there should be some big ass people who are willing to make ten dollars for ten minutes of a match. Hell, I'd do it. Camera's, aren't exactly neccassary at the get go. As long as you take some pic's via an actual camera, or even camera phone to get on your site your good. Speaking of a site: You should buy a site, or get the free cheap ones, and develop a site. Make it professional. Now to get partners, I'd say hit up myspace. There are so many people who you can meet from Arizona who might be a manager at a local Arizona gas station. He see's buisness, ane you propose a deal with him to sell coke, or sprite or something. Those fat lazy rednecks, who come out to watch indie wrestling are bound to get thirsty, and by a beer.
