CLEVELAND, Ohio – It looks like WWE's SummerSlam will be an Ohio affair.
The event is taking place at Barclays Center in New York City. But one of the main events will feature two Ohio boys battling it out for the WWE Heavyweight Championship.
Current WWE champ and Cincinnati native Dean Ambrose will defend his title against Cleveland native Dolph Ziggler. The latter earned his spot during SmackDown Live on Tuesday night, winning a six-pack No.1 contenders match.
Ziggler has long been identified with Northeast Ohio, typically receiving the biggest ovation from WWE crowds during hometown events. He was most recently here during the Republican National Convention.
Kent State University will induct Ziggler into its Varsity "K" Hall of Fame this September in honor of his accomplishments at the school. Ziggler, real name Nicholas Nemeth, was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference champion at Kent State.
For some, WWE's choice of Ziggler to face Ambrose at SummerSlam was a shock. Many expected John Cena, Bray Wyatt, AJ Styles or, really, anyone else to get the nod.
But WWE has promoted its new brand split between SmackDown and Raw as a new era. Apparently, that means Ziggler finally getting the push he should have received after his standout year of 2014.
SummerSlam 2016 takes place Sunday, Aug. 21 on the WWE Network.

I do not understand what their plan is here. I just don't get it... Unless they are legit giving Ziggler a run, but why now!? And why when Ambrose is holding the title? It don't make sense to me. Am I missing something here?
