SmackDown Live preview, Aug. 16, 2016: The Lunatic Fringe and The Showoff journey to "Miz TV"

As they prepare to go to war at The Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose and his No. 1 Contender Dolph Ziggler will stand face-to-face with the A-Lister egging them on. What could possibly go wrong?

What will happen when Ambrose and Ziggler come face-to-face on ‘Miz TV’?

The Miz will welcome WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose and his No. 1 contender Dolph Ziggler onto the set of “Miz TV” tonight for a no-holds-barred interview. Tensions between the SummerSlam opponents have risen like mercury in a thermometer on a hot August afternoon since their title match was set. Don’t be surprised if it all boils over when the A-Lister starts turning up the heat.

Moreover, it will be interesting to see if Bray Wyatt continues to be an ominous thorn in the side of the WWE World Title picture. Follow the buzzards and refuse to miss SmackDown Live, tonight at 8/7 C on USA.

Can ‘The Face that Runs the Place’ rise above Excellence itself?

The last SmackDown Live before SummerSlam is going to be a scorcher.

WWE.com has learned that John Cena will be in action tonight, squaring off against longtime adversary Alberto Del Rio. In case you don't remember, Del Rio just so happens to be the guy who ended Cena's historic reign as United States Champion at WWE Hell in a Cell in October 2015.

To say there's some bad blood would be an understatement, and if Cena's not careful he could be walking into his SummerSlam bout against AJ Styles with a broken arm. Then again, will The Phenomenal One choose to wait for Sunday’s showdown with the leader of the Cenation? After all, Styles is one Superstar who enjoys taking any advantage he can get. Don't miss this classic confrontation tonight on USA Network.

The Tag Team and Women’s divisions continue to heat up

OK, in spite of a few enticing comments from General Manager Daniel Bryan on “Talking Smack,” so far there is no Tag Team or Women’s Title on SmackDown Live. But, to watch the members of those respective divisions in recent weeks, you definitely wouldn’t know it.

Instead, the action has been, in a word, incredible. Last week, the WWE Universe saw a slew of tag teams descend on the ring to form an all-out melee, perhaps resulting from comments made by the confident American Alpha about the fire they intend to light under their competitors. The question now is: which tandem will look to make a statement next?

The Women’s division has been just as fierce. Last week, two of SmackDown Live’s up-and-coming female warriors made their debuts: Alexa Bliss overcame Becky Lynch with the help of Eva Marie and her controversial wardrobe malfunction and Carmella upset an irate Natalya. Will these emerging competitors face retribution at the hands of their more entrenched adversaries? Will Eva Marie finally have her spectacular debut?

In short, there may not be any title to fight for as of yet, but that’s not stopping these SmackDown Live competitors from kicking it up a notch to prove they’re the best Team Blue has to offer. And we can’t wait to see what they do next.

Will Heath Slater be back for another try at SmackDown Live?

Folks, it just doesn’t pay to be Heath Slater these days at all. Last week, The One Man Band attempted to finally secure a SmackDown Live contract, only to be decimated by Rhyno.

Interestingly enough, SmackDown Live GM Daniel Bryan and Commissioner Shane McMahon were prepared to give him a contract anyway, before he made the mistake of telling them off and storming out. Then, yesterday on Raw, Slater actually stepped up to Brock Lesnar for a possible Raw contract and … let’s just say that didn’t go well either.

Assuming there is anything left of Slater following his clash with The Beast Incarnate, will he dare try to join Team Blue once again? And just how many kids does Slater have anyway?

Where will The Viper strike next heading into SummerSlam?

In the last few weeks, Dean Ambrose on the “Stone Cold Podcast” and Daniel Bryan on “Talking Smack” have alluded to Raw’s Brock Lesnar’s laziness due the infrequency which he competes.

While we would never (ever) use that word to describe The Conqueror, one can never make such a statement about The Beast Incarnate’s SummerSlam opponent Randy Orton.

Since returning to WWE, The Viper has been quite busy, taking out the likes of Chris Jericho, Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Alberto Del Rio. So, which Superstar(s) will be the next to make a pit stop in Viperville en route to Orton’s epic clash against Lesnar at the Biggest Party of the Summer? Find out tonight at 8/7 C on SmackDown Live.

I know there's Cena and Del Rio and the Miz TV segment, but I would also ideally book a womens tag match with Alexa and Natalya facing Becky and Naomi and a singles match between Orton and Rhyno.
