Oh fwiw for this I do think those AEW numbers are from Tony and do include streaming numbers, not just linear PPV but I'd have to check if they break them down or not bc I never look that hard into it
It probably does as bleacher and Fite have to be a larger chunk of them in 2023.

As respectfully as I possibly can, I do also want to point out 4400 television PPV buys being so huge for them just shows how downplaying AEW regularly doing over 100K is just ridiculous at this point.

All that being said, happy to see all wrestling doing better and thriving.
lol yeah

I also hope the higher attendances and PPVs mean Impact is making a profit for Anthem lol I assume they are just from what I see of the relationship but we really don't have any indication of their finances other than the shows still being fairly small scale. And I assume they aren't getting any real TV rights money since anthem owns the channel

I certainly hope so, but owning the product might also still be cheaper even if they’re not over licensing it.

Yeah I'm sure it has more pros than cons, the company has never felt this safe for one lol

That’s the WCW model. And it’s amazing to think their record breaking 1998 where they made $250 million, none of that was tv rights since they didn’t give themselves tv rights revenue.

I think back then it was bc the exposure on TV was more beneficial than the way smaller rights anyone was willing to pay for wrestling compared to now

Oh for sure. Owning wrestling now would be a much bigger deal. If Warner Bros. could buy aeW that would be huge for that they would get the ratings they’re getting now and they would be able to reduce license fees for it by a large amount, if not nothing.

It's interesting though, I can't think of anything specific that would drive Slammy so much higher this year unless even I'm underating how much former fans are excited that Shelley became champ. I think it's mostly just a consistently good product is consistently but slowly building a larger fan base. Worth noting this show went against Collision with the 2 out of 3 falls match on free TV too
I feel like it's been a process of building
