The L.A. Times reports that Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort have agreed to meet for Silva’s middleweight championship at UFC 108. The card will serve as the UFC’s traditional year-end show and will be held January 2nd, 2010.
Belfort defeated Rich Franklin in quick fashion at UFC 103 last weekend. After the show, Dana White informed the media that Belfort was next in line for the title shot, jumping ahead of both Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt.
White has wanted to make this fight happen since July, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing it. Both Henderson and Marquardt can lay claim to being the number one contender to Silva’s belt, but both men have already lost to Silva in title fights and the UFC isn’t keen on putting together rematches unless it’s guaranteed big business.
