After its August show in San Diego, Strikeforce will bring a fall show to Sacramento.
The promotion will host a Sept. 29 card at Power Balance Pavilion, formerly the ARCO Arena, in the California state capital. The card was announced Saturday during the Showtime broadcast of "Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy."
Though a precise headliner wasn't announced, Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix winner Daniel Cormier will be on the card, likely in the main event.
The show will be the second of the day for Zuffa, which has UFC on FUEL TV 5 taking place the same day in Nottingham, England. But that card will wrap by early evening in the U.S., making way for the Strikeforce card.
Strikeforce, which was based in San Jose, Calif., before being purchased by Zuffa, has never held an event in Sacramento.
Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF) in May won a unanimous decision against Josh Barnett to win Strikeforce's heavyweight tournament. But injuries in the fight were expected to keep him sidelined until the fall. Now his return is known – though his opponent is not.
Strikeforce's next show is set for Aug. 18 at the Valley View Casino in San Diego, featuring a women's bantamweight title fight between champion Ronda Rousey and top contender Sarah Kaufman.
Good, the quicker he gets this last fight with Strikeforce done and over with the quicker he can jump over to the UFC.
