Shawn Michaels has a new executive job title in WWE.
CBS Sports reported on Wednesday that Michaels has been promoted to "senior vice president of talent development creative" in WWE. CBS Sports wrote that Michaels "will continue to oversee creative in NXT, as well as being in charge of the development of talent in WWE's developmental brand" and will "also oversee the expansion of the NXT brand, including the expansion of NXT UK into NXT Europe, which is planned to launch in 2023."
Last month, WWE issued a press release announcing the launch of NXT Europe that listed Michaels as "vice president of talent development creative" without the "senior" title.
Michaels has been working behind the scenes in NXT since 2016. He stepped into a bigger role helping to lead charge of the brand last year as Paul "Triple H" Levesque recovered from heart surgery.
WWE officially announced this week that Levesque has been promoted to chief content officer. Levesque was named WWE's new head of creative this July following the retirement of Vince McMahon.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated last month, Michaels spoke about working with Levesque to create a "really powerful one-two punch" between NXT and the main roster:
We hope now that we can put together a really powerful one-two punch between NXT and the main roster that’s going to drive WWE to even greater heights. He wants to stick to the mission statement, which is to be the greatest sports entertainment company on the face of the earth. I’m going to do everything here to help, and he’ll have the entire support of NXT. We’re all excited for the future.
